I took a course back in 1994 and it was good, but not great. I just happened to get jerked because it was based on maily theory, not much hands-on stuff. I can't remember the book we used but it has tons of good info. You can't really go wrong with most audio engineering books, I like the older books because it involves all the old gear and techniques. With today's books they might take shortcuts and talk only about PC recording, etc.

They have a new school for engineering in nyc too called dmx its part of turo college..They offer hands on stuff first and after you complete the course you have 30 college credits...IAR if you can read music (notes) after you're finished they give you a full scholorship to five towns

For A Book:

"YAMAHA's THE SOUND REINFORCEMENT HANDBOOK"

I got that when i was 12 and I didnt understand one thing it said in there. But after a while i started reading about stuff i didnt know and i started getting it. I'd recommend this, its like an Encyclopedia of Sound.

This will last you for years, And its big enough to hurt somebody if you throw it.

I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for audio and video engineering. I had to drop out at the beginning of my second year. It was too costly. I got a job working as a staff producer/engineer's assistant at a local sudio.
