Now I know this may seem like a general question, but what kind of software do each of you prefer for multitrack recording? I will be purchasing software soon and just want to get some ideas, pro's and con's of various software products. I'm interested in Sonar, but just don't know much about it. I will be researching, so I'm not askin for handouts, but any info you guys/gals can give me would be greatly appreciated. thanx. Out

i use audition and it's fine, i use it for recording scratches and sampling. we use garageband for vocals on my friend's mac and no problems there either.

i like adobe audition 1.5 shit got every thing that you'll need and it ain't that much doe. also that softwares been around for a while used to be cool edit pro. i like it but it depends on you download demos and fuck wid every program then choose one that fits you thats how i did it. i also hear that ableton live 4 is good and also acid pro 5- that kid

Sonar 4 professional. it works miracles. its fuckin amazin. u can have unlimited audio tracks in the producer edition that i use and u can do fuckin music videos in that shit. i dont know if u read my post about what i use it for but when i create my tracks in reason, i rewire it over to sonar to add what ever plugins i want in it. U can also use the bounce to tracks to make multiple tracks in to one track. it saves your cpu like crazy. heres the actual list i got from off the website. Its alot but theres also more thats not listed(props to the cakewalk site)

Tell me more about Reason. That seems to come up alot as well. It seems confusing. verytime I see Reason, I see propellerhead, or Recycle, or Rewire. Are all of these different proggies. Or are they all part of the Reason Suite??? Thanx. Out

I use the economic version of cubase (SE), $99 or as low as 50 in EBAY. 48 audio tracks though i never needed more than 24 or so. Its dope,cheap and the sequencer is nice, with Reason rewired. = TAK

Steel - Reason is a self contained virtual environment, or better known as a virtual rack that immitates a real rack that you would have in your studio...it contains everything u need to make really dope tracks as well as a very easy to use sequencer...this prgm however does not let u record a live signal in aside from midi data....so if u need to record vocals, thats when u break out a host prgm of yer choice of course and thats why i said i use Live....so when u open Live and open Reason at the same time they sync together with a dll. or basically a little prgm called ReWire,....what rewire does is basically complete the bridge between two seperate prgms....So for example Reason and Ableton Live in my case anyways....

Thanks Duece, but since I'm not using MIDI right now, I think I'll look elsewhere. I do like it's features though so I'll definetly keep it in mind. I downloaded the ACID Pro 5 demo and I kind of like it. But I think I'll wait to make my choice when I get my tascam fw-1884. Then I can use MIDI without springing for an expensive sound card.
