Hey,
Remember that guys in the 80's were making tracks with only drum machines and old samplers which have less processing power than the remote control for your tv's today...I don't think that anyone here will debate that these tracks were innovative and very good.
There is a problem with musicians in all genres: they think that gear=good tracks. Rock bands want lots of guitars, amps and effects pedals; techno guys want lots of synths; hip hop guys want the MPC2000 and a Triton...
The Triton is technologically one of the best synths on the market today, and it has great sounds on it to boot. Korg have been in the business making innovative products for almost 40 years now, they have the resources and experience to understand good sampling and mapping as well as cramming high end features into a single keyboard.
The guys who make the presets for synths don't always feel the pulse of what everybody wants in the future, they can only make sounds based on current or past trends. It takes the people who buy these synths to sit down, open them up and learn how to make them 'talk' they way they want them to. Look at the 808...that thing was designed to replace a drummer in a band, it took someone with some vision to turn up the kick drum and program funky drum patterns in it.
I don't think that anyone would disagree with the fact that the 808 has great sounds and is still a hot commodity in hip hop production, yet the Triton has thousands more sounds on it (including 808 samples)...make the Triton your bitch, become its pimp, and it will pay you back ten-fold.
Take care,
Nick
