"When Obama talks about the “audacity to hope,” about “a change we can believe in,” he is using a rhetoric of change that lacks specific content: To hope for what? To change what?"

Thats a great way to put it. That has been my main thought all along.
HOPE FOR A BETTER FUTURE...CHANGE FOR THE BETTER...WHATEVER THAT INTELLS....QUIT MAKING SHIT HARDER THAN WHAT IT REALLY IS....HOPING SHIT WILL BE BETTER IN GENERAL. CHANGE STARTS WITHIN...KNOW YASELF. WHY YALL SO STUPID MAN?

Eh, both of you are right. thedreampolice, you are absolutely right, unless you get ultra lucky and hit the lotto or something, Obama aint doing shit for you and you have to make yourself. However, with Obamas policies on taxes, it will give the low income familys a bit of help. Not everyone has plans to be a self made millionaire. My mom is 40 years old with 4 kids to support and always broke. How? Because she has four kids which in turn caused her to not get an education and be making mad money, plus my prick dad doesn't pay child support. Education is key when you want to make money in life, but she has no time to go back to school because she works 45-50 hours a week. Did she fuck up? No, she'd rather have her four children if she had the chance to go back and do it again. So for families like this, Obamas policy will help, not by much, but something is better than nothing.

As for presidential speeches from prospective candidates or sitting presidents, the content of the speech is written by very experienced speech writers. People who have been taught and understand the mechanics behind social manipulation. Every speech in politics is designed for one thing, to get as many people behind it as possible, just like Guru said "Mass Appeal". No political speech ever solved anything, it just makes people beleive things are going to happen, when in reality they rarely do.

Im sick of hearing the phrase "Lessons will be learned" because they never are, just like the brutal death of a poor 17 month child very near to me in tottenham which is within 3 miles of my house. A child was killed a few years ago, she was called Victoria when she was found dead she had extensive cigaarette burns inflicted by her evil aunt and uncle, on this occasion the baby suffered brutal beatings and was paralyzed from the waste down, yet the paedeatrician failed to spot this just 2 days before the poor poor child was found dead.
Social services had paid 60 visits to the child, but yet failed to do anything to save the child. All this after lessons were supposed to have been learned from the previous child, which also happened in tottenham.

I know the cases of these poor children have nothing do with the subject matter, apart from it also being something im sick of hearing. But it is a sad sad tale that the world really needs to know about, I personally am embarrassed that this happened in the London borough next to my own. I feel shame for this country.

Poilitics=talk, there is no action in politics, no politician can change anything, they can just come up with new laws and further restrict the freedoms that are disappearing on a weekly basis.
They are also there to be paid off by big corporations to get favorable laws passed for the big business.
But the people I blame the most is all of us that hear stories like this, and know of the truths behind politics and yet do nothing about it. Its our fault that these tragedies happen because we turn a blind eye to it.
When I think deeply about it, do we really deserve the freedoms we have?
Im starting to think we dont, has it made us better people?... no.
We have become self obsessed fame and money chasing zombies, and we only have ourselves to blame.

Sorry for the venting, its pretty off subject, but I feel great sadness for the life of the poor child whos brief 17 month existence in this "civilised" country we call England was nothing but sheer hell on earth.
And I really feel no embarrasment that this story has deeply upset me, I almost cried.
And all this after "Lessons will be learned".

Not to sound like I am dissing Dream... but this is what bothers me about people who do not like Obama. He is very specific when he talks about change. I don't understand how people can act like they do not understand what Obama. He says very SPECIFIC things.

He will raise taxes on Corporations. But not in the way people think. He is getting rid of tax loops like getting tax cuts for outsourcing. He is not raising the amount, just making it harder for them to get out of paying their fair share. He said this in his last speech before the election.

He wants to change the current system where Government Reps are getting deals from lobbyists and corporations to pass legislation. I know you guys have heard about the Oil Reps who were giving government officials drugs and hookers and shit.

Wipe the hate out your eyes and listen to the man.

To Ominous - what's up with Bank of America? I do all of my banking with them, curious what you heard. CSPAN is definitely the truth, however can be so damn boring. They should invest in some better multimedia.

I have banked with BofA all my life. Every since I was 13. I opened and account with 75 bucks... and well.... that's really all that is in there right now LOL. Basically, they were one of the only reasonable banks that remained "responsible" during the subprime craze. This is why they were able to buy out another bank that went under. Now they are rewriting the bad mortgages to make them a little more fair for the borrower and to keep from losing all of the value of the "bad asset".

NONE OF THE OTHER BANKS WANTED TO DO THIS...

So basically... congress is working with them and a few other large banks to figure out what is going on and how to fix things.

And yeah... CSPAN is boring. But you have to look for certain people, like Barney Frank. They had a housing hearing where they talked about our current melt down and there was a lot of dissing. SMart old people diss each other a certain way. You don't really know it until you see the people who got dissed respond. Shit was mad funny. It's some real nerd shit but I like watching the drama there instead of watching VH1 reality shows. The CSPAN drama is real!

i didnt intend to badmouth obama by posting zizeks comment.
zizek is a very bright guy and listening to him is always inconvenient, while one should notice that he's a philosopher, argumenting from a perspective of "absolute truth".

i think hes rather criticizing obamas campaign for using very big words in a slightly misleading manner.
they make it sound like a 180 degree shift in political paradigm, but its not. it cant be, he'll only be president obama, not king obama the 8th.
it will stay what it was, a darwinist capitalism with a few humanitarian alterations.
which, anyhow, doesnt make him worse, or republicans better, its only, they all lie, because they have to + nobody speaks the truth, because they cant

First off I hate the government in general, anyone who wants that much power I distrust. I have read Obamas entire site and all the proposed legislation I can get my hands on, have you? Or do you just watch the news? BTW I also distrust the news its total crap. I can not find anything really that specific at all with Obama there are a few things close. Lets face it this election was won purely on emotion PERIOD. Please give me a real specific number that he has said.

1000 tax cut to 95% of families in the US, anyone making under 200,000 is very likely to get a $1000 tax cut.
Redeploy troops to Afghanastan.
those are 2 very specific things.

I was all over his site too and I dont see how you are missing specific things like that unless you dont want to see them..

In fact I'll go over there now and copy and paste prolly a hundred specific things.

IE:
As reported on Change.gov, the office of the President-elect Barack Obama today announced the strictest, and most far reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history. The rules are:

Federal Lobbyists cannot contribute financially to the transition.
Federal lobbyists are prohibited from any lobbying during their work with the transition.
If someone has lobbied in the last 12 months, they are prohibited from working in the fields of policy on which they lobbied.
If someone becomes a lobbyist after working on the Transition, they are prohibited from lobbying the Administration for 12 months on matters on which they worked.

How specific do you want it??

Enact a Windfall Profits Tax to Provide a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families:Barack Obama and Joe Biden will enact a windfall profits tax on excessive oil company profits to give American families an immediate $1,000 emergency energy rebate to help families pay rising bills. This relief would be a down payment on the Obama-Biden long-term plan to provide middle-class families with at least $1,000 per year in permanent tax relief.

Provide $50 billion to Jumpstart the Economy and Prevent 1 Million Americans from Losing Their Jobs: This relief would include a $25 billion State Growth Fund to prevent state and local cuts in health, education, housing, and heating assistance or counterproductive increases in property taxes, tolls or fees. The Obama-Biden relief plan will also include $25 billion in a Jobs and Growth Fund to prevent cutbacks in road and bridge maintenance and fund school re*pair - all to save more than 1 million jobs in danger of being cut.

Eliminate Income Taxes for Seniors Making Less than $50,000: Barack Obama will eliminate all income taxation of seniors making less than $50,000 per year. This proposal will eliminate income taxes for 7 million seniors and provide these seniors with an average savings of $1,400 each year. Under the Obama-Biden plan, 27 million American seniors will also not need to file an income tax return.

Simplify Tax Filings for Middle Class Americans: Obama and Biden will dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be able to do their taxes in less than five minutes. Obama and Biden will ensure that the IRS uses the information it already gets from banks and employers to give taxpayers the option of pre-filled tax forms to verify, sign and return. Experts estimate that the Obama-Biden proposal will save Americans up to 200 million total hours of work and aggravation and up to $2 billion in tax preparer fees.

End Tax Breaks for Companies that Send Jobs Overseas: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that companies should not get billions of dollars in tax deductions for moving their operations overseas. Obama and Biden will also fight to ensure that public contracts are awarded to companies that are committed to American workers.

Reward Companies that Support American Workers: Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to reward companies that create good jobs with good benefits for American workers. The legislation would provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America if it has ever been in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

Invest In A Clean Energy Economy And Create 5 Million New Green Jobs: Obama and Biden will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial scale renewable energy, invest in low emissions coal plants, and begin transition to a new digital electricity grid. The plan will also invest in America's highly-skilled manufacturing workforce and manufacturing centers to ensure that American workers have the skills and tools they need to pioneer the first wave of green technologies that will be in high demand throughout the world.

Create New Job Training Programs for Clean Technologies: The Obama-Biden plan will increase funding for federal workforce training programs and direct these programs to incorporate green technologies training, such as advanced manufacturing and weatherization training, into their efforts to help Americans find and retain stable, high-paying jobs. Obama and Biden will also create an energy-focused youth jobs program to invest in disconnected and disadvantaged youth.

Boost the Renewable Energy Sector and Create New Jobs: The Obama-Biden plan will create new federal policies, and expand existing ones, that have been proven to create new American jobs. Obama and Biden will create a federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that will require 25 percent of American electricity be derived from renewable sources by 2025, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of new jobs on its own. Obama and Biden will also extend the Production Tax Credit, a credit used successfully by American farmers and investors to increase renewable energy production and create new local jobs.

Create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will address the infrastructure challenge by creating a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to expand and enhance, not supplant, existing federal transportation investments. This independent entity will be directed to invest in our nation’s most challenging transportation infrastructure needs. The Bank will receive an infusion of federal money, $60 billion over 10 years, to provide financing to transportation infrastructure projects across the nation. These projects will create up to two million new direct and indirect jobs and stimulate approximately $35 billion per year in new economic activity.

or dont you believe in doing any of this??

My problem is where is all this money coming from. Either the fed or the Chinese.

This sounds good but I'll stick with my accountant. Here is where "too much government" comes into play.

Again, sound great, but tax breaks wouldn't hurt anyone at this point. These companies knew the Bush tax breaks aren't going to last forever, plus the wages they pay these people,,,outsourcing isn't going anywhere.

Reward Companies that Support American Workers: Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) to reward companies that create good jobs with good benefits for American workers. This is believed to counter-act the above mentioned, but not in the way most voters think.

This i like, but again,,money out of air.

Any of these politicians hear of solar panels? I mean, if your going to throw around money that we don't have,,,eliminate the electric companies. Wall street got the bailout which was something like the equivalent to giving every American 4000.00. There's solar panels for every home in America.

Create a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will address the infrastructure challenge by creating a National Infrastructure Reinvestment Bank to expand and enhance, not supplant, existing federal transportation investments. No, not really. I spent 9 years in the transportation business from the state side of things. By the time that money gets handed out, it's already spent on other shit.

or dont you believe in doing any of this??

Obama is my president and I will support whatever makes sense. One of the reasons we are in this recession was all the spending the last administration did. Now if you read above, it's just more spending.

Hope with out action is foolish. What you are saying is way to abstract.

"CHANGE STARTS WITHIN...KNOW YASELF"

See the title of this thread for my opinion.
ITS NOT HARD THOUGH...KNOW YASELF...IF ANY CHANGES NEED TO BE MADE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF YOU...TRY IT...THATS REALLY THE ONLY "ACTION" YOU NEED TO TAKE. PEOPLE GOT OUT AND VOTED AND "CHANGED" THINGS THIS TIME...PEOPLE JUST DIDN'T HOPE FOR IT. THIS TIME HOPE WAS TURNED INTO "ACTION" AND WAS REALISED ON NOV 5th 2008....SO WASSUP?

::: McCain :::

et the facts on John McCain and his record of sending thousands of American jobs overseas:

McCain Voted to Give Tax Breaks to Companies that Move Manufacturing Plants Offshore. In 2005, McCain voted against an amendment to repeal tax incentives for domestic companies that move their manufacturing plants to offshore locations and use the resulting revenue to reduce the federal deficit and debt by $3.2 billion from 2006 to 2010. The amendment failed 40-59. [S.Amdt. 210 to S.Con.Res. 18, Vote #63, 3/17/05]

McCain Supports Policies that Ship American Jobs Overseas. In 2004, McCain voted against prohibiting American tax dollars from being used to ship jobs outside the country. He voted against a reserve fund that would allow increases of up to $24 billion for fiscal years 2005 through 2009 for employment initiatives including tax credits for companies that create new U.S.-based manufacturing jobs and small businesses that provide health care coverage. [S.Amdt. 2783 to S.Con.Res. 95, Vote #41, 3/11/04]

McCain Voted To Allow Outsourcing Jobs Even For Federally Funded Contracts. In 2004, McCain voted against an amendment that would prohibit a federal government contract, including state contracts with any federal funding, from being performed outside the United States. The amendment passed 70-26. [S.Amdt. 2660 to S. 1637, Vote #32, 3/04/04]

McCain Voted Against Protecting the Jobs of US Workers. In 1998, McCain voted to table an amendment that required employers to recruit and retain U.S. workers before seeking temporary foreign workers to perform services being sought. [S.Amdt. 2417 to S. 1723, Vote #139, 5/18/98]

McCain Puts Foreign Workers Ahead of American Workers. In 1998, McCain voted to table an amendment, which prohibits an employer from hiring a foreign worker under the H-1B visa program if the employer has laid off any U.S. workers during the six months prior to the filing of an application for a foreign worker, or during the 90 day period following the filing of an application. [S.Amdt. 2418 to S. 1723, Vote #138, 5/18/98]

McCain Supports Policies that have Hurt the Auto Industry. McCain has refused to help Michigan automakers invest in new technology to compete in the global economy, and only finally agreed to partial loans for automakers to invest in 21st-century technology and workers after unrelenting pressure from the public and the Big Three. [Source: Detroit News, 7/21/08]

McCain Voted To Preserve A Tax Loophole That Encourages Companies To Ship Jobs Overseas. In 1995, McCain voted against an amendment that repeals the special tax break, which allows tax-free income for individual shareholders deriving income from property imported into United States by foreign-controlled corporations. [S. 1357, Vote #516, 10/26/95]

But back to the point I am sick of hearing people say the government will solve their problems. Its lame and WONT happen no matter who is in office. You are responsible for you period. No one else gives a shit no matter what some political lead says. I can believe you guys are so trusting of a system that has screwed all of us for years.
