Proteus VX......real damn close and even has much more

E-mu makes it who are also the makers of the sp12 so you know they have the authentic sounds!

Is there any software application that can emulate the Sp1200's signature sound? Even though its a "Signature Sound?"--

nope... not accurately... anymore than a plugin could sound like a real minimoog. close, but not gonna happen. sp1200's are hard to find and expensive but u can find other 12bit samplers around for cheaper.. older ensoniq/emu stuff comes mind... or even akai 900 series stuff... it wont sound like an sp1200 cuz that sound is unique, but it will sound real nice and crunchy

I have to disagree with you Ash. The Proteus VX is it! It's the software descendant of the SP with all the authentic sounds of the SP1200. I didn't believe it until I got it and started playing with it. Check up on it homie. I promise you'll change your mind. I haven't produced a track with it yet because I just coped it this week. It's a monster! Shit's so authentic that they have the SP1200 picture describing it.

^^ i have to disagree with you,

tho limited comparing to newer sampler, the SP1200 will always be the classic drum machine because of its converters and filters. The way you can filter your bassline through the SP1200 is very unique.

That Proteus VX might be nice, but it can only sound as good as your soundcard's converters (which I doubt is as bad-ass as the SP)

I use an sp.It has little hidden treasures behind the limitations. Get one and use it by its self for a while.Go back to whatever you were using before and notice how your chopping skills got better. Notice my number in the post lol
