I'm sure there will be some laughs that I'm asking this but sometimes you've just got to put things out there to see what happens. I do a lot of rock/hip hop blends (originals) and I honestly believe if I could get a track or two in front of him he would be interested in working/supporting a lot of it. I know about all the music industry events, etc, networking myspace, but if a friend of a friend knew him and could vouch for some stuff I think it would be worth his time. Thanks for any ideas and have a good laugh if you'd like!

Nah, I won't laugh at you because you CAN get in touch w/ Rubin. If you've been doing this music stuff for any amount of time and you've been involved with industry events, networking, myspace etc, then you already "know" or have met someone who has come into contact w/ Rubin. I tell people all the time, the world is a lot smaller than you think.

This is not a direct answer to your question, but it will help you w/ endeavours like this in the future. Don't just read, but master this book that I'll suggest for you:

The info K. Ferrazzi lays out is so powerful, I'm surprised that he shared it, and it was written BEFORE social networking became a mainstay in American culture. It teaches you how to "manage" and fine-tune your network so that you can literally find and meet ANYBODY.

I agree with shadeed. The time could be around the corner. Meeting the right person comes easier then most think. ..and if you can get a copy of that book its well worth a read

why bother coppin' the book... simply you need to work on your social skills, build a reputation, and make your connections in a subtle manner that leaves people thinking twice.
if you make sure you hone your skills in a marketable way, you will have product.
if you learn to socialize on a level that is set to accomplish one specific thing, you will eventually accomplish that one thing.
if you could put on a big side show to get the attention that you need, you will get that attention. (eg "never eat alone" its alot easier to make a connection if your offering a favor) but the basics all come down to your charismatic abilities, your product or skill that backs up your talk, and ability to present in a manner that matches context. get that down and you will never fail, given you have the patience and the will to accomplish.

"why bother coppin' the book."

umm to maybe learn something you don't know.

"I do not consider knowledge to be power. If knowledge were power, all smart people would be powerful and no stupid people would be.

However, knowledge is a powerful resource, and it’s a resource you can never have too much of. I know someone once said a little knowledge can be dangerous; that guy must have been stupid! No matter what’s happing in your professional or personal life right now, you can always cultivate knowledge. The process of learning strengthens the mind, cultivates emotional and spiritual resources and increases your reserve of knowledge."
