If you’ve ever wondered when we’ll be living in a world similar to that portrayed by the film Minority Report, where shops greet you by name as you walk in and you pay for a tube ticket by having your iris scanned, then wonder no more. It’ll be arriving in a few weeks’ time.
Swedish mobile interface specialist agency TAT has created a prototype of what it calls the “Augmented ID concept”. Using the facial recognition technology from Polar Rose’s FaceLib application, the Recognizr android app – it’s a prototype so you can’t get it, yet – does mobile face detection and recognition. Check out this video, it’s amazing.
The effect is that by pointing a mobile phone camera at someone you can see their various social networks appear next to their head. Writer Cory Doctorow called this “whuffie” in his science fiction novel Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, set around 500 years into the future.
Looks like we won’t have to wait that long.

yea but I see it blowing up and becoming just as popular as twitter. I thought twitter was a bit much as far as privacy but this is next level. It may be good but its VERY risky.

Timing will be a tremendous factor in its success or failure...right now the economy is just too bad. Once people can breathe again things will be better but until that happens...same ole ish. Not one single gadget has met its goal from conception since our economic issues have surfaced, not a single one. Companies are now going after that last little bit thats left before the ish hits the fan.

web applications can only identify you with the INFORMATION YOU GIVE THEM, i do not use my personal email or real name anywhere on the internet for this reason alone... pretty simple stuff, its not like twitter knows who you are if you tell them you're dick nixon then you're dick nixon, they can't prove otherwise. watermark the shit out of your photos. or don't use the photos on the internet? either way I can't see this coming up in a big way it is far too risque.

maybe in Canada but not here bro, you can fill out a drawing to win a car in a food joint and they sell your info to hundreds of background search companies to store in their databases. Here's one for example...

Use your name or anyones name just to see how much info just this one place has on you or them. It will blow your mind. These cats can give you your driving record, any court cases from misdemeanor up, your housepayment, plenty of ish. Check it out.

Anyone that identifies you by your phone number such as Radio Shack, Best Buy, and many others have you in a data base somewhere. When you get a speeding ticket thats public access here. A speeding ticket has your address, date of birth, drivers license number and so on....all availiable to the public...now heres the catch, the public doesnt care who you are but companies like intelius does because they can make money off of you. ~
