I know this aint a new piece of equipment but ive heard good things from it recently. This may be a kinda stupid question, but what exactly is it? I know its a sampler, but what role would it play in the steps to making a beat, or finishing a track?

Thanks

O Shit. Thanks.

Sorry for not checkin the reviews first (fade).

Its pretty much just a hardware sample editor?
Does anybody know if you can use it kind of as a sound module, and use the midi out on the S2000 to the midi in on your sequencer (mpc or whatever you use)?

Another question again.

Theres an optional 8-Outs Board on this. What you need this for? Its not a sequencer i think.

Also, somebody who used this before,
Is this good for when your at your boys house and his mom got a load of records. Is this good for just recording a bunch of rough samples onto zip and leaving, then cutting them up later? Know what i mean?

I read somewhere from Prodigy sayin about how Havoc used the Triton Rack and he'd come into the studio with a zip disk while they were makin 'Murda Muzik'. And he just had a bunch of old record clips he recorded a couple days before and he'd load 'em up and start makin hot beats out of nothing onto the MPC.

Thats where i got the idea for usin the S2000 as that. But help me out please.

pardon me, i'm a newbie to production so i'm still a bit sketchy on the hardware and what it does........can u explain exactly what u used the s2000 for?

and is it possible to just have an mpc1000 to take to a friends and get some smaples like that?

well u could use it for that purpose, but u definately need to hook up a zip drive to it cuz it doesnt have any internal ram to save it when u shut it off,and the floppies just wont cut it. its also a lil harder to make precise cuts or loops with it with the lcd it has. so if i were u just make quick recordings of wat u wanna use then load up the samples to a puter or a mpc to chop up or loop it would be much easier that way. and the 8 out would help out if u got a multi track recorder set up goin so if u load up multiple instruments or samples on the s2000 u can record em on separate tracks so u can apply efx, compression etc seperately.Oh yeah it does not have a internal sequencer ....HOLLA AT YA BOY

damn so it don't have a sequencer so its only good for sampling, so the s2000 is like an on the go sampler. then u come back to the house and dump the sample in the computer or the mpc ok got ya

Now you know why ive been lookin into this.

Like i said before, this is especially hot becaus i went over this kids house to smoke, then he somehow brings up how his mom got a record collection in the attic. So i go home, grab my s20, come back, and well be up there for a couple hours digging then recording 5 sounds into my s20, savin to floppy, savin 5 sounds into the s20, then to floppy, over and over til i got 20 floppys full of hot sounds.

Then on another day, ill record from a computer or mpc or whatever and record the samples in from my s20.

Thats the thing about the S20. I love the shit outta that thing but theres no SCSI on the back, no 8-Outs, and the 16mb upgrade is kinda hard to find. But other then that, its the same as the S2000.

I know I need a zip drive, and the memory upgrade. But im a little low on cash right now.

Ive been lookin at the S3000 recently and i like it but i think its too clean and it might not the get the grimyness that the S20 has. I like that dirty sound more then perfect soundin shit.

Aaaahh man I miss my S20! I never thought I'd say that, but I do. When I had it, it wasn't upgraded or nothing, just the basics, but it still did a pretty good job. The trimming and looping was totally on point, and if I had the chance to get it again at a cheap price I'd consider it.

Helix, are you still looking at getting the S2000 or getting an S20 upgrade? I know it's hard to find the upgrade but IMO, it's worth it. But hey, if you can get the S2000 at a good price, get that instead.

ill o.g.
Im gonna get the S2000. Cuz if i get the S20 upgrade it will be pointless. Cuz ill have 16mb of memory but only 1.44mb to save to. So im gonna get the S2000 with an Ext. Zip. I might still keep the S20 for a while for the portability and in case i dont like my S2000 i can still have my S20 to go back to.

I agree with you though. Its so easy to cut shit up. I couldve taught some 5 Year old kid how to cut shit up and save it on that.

yo i would get the s3000xl its the next step above the 2000. I have a 2000 but i want the 8 outs so i can run it to a mixer. I have the outs for my mpc so i do sampling wiht that.

I think the S3K is hot, but its too hot. It shows you the wavesample on the screen. Thats useful, but i like stickin with shit that makes you listen when you cut the sound up. I bet the S3K is worth lookin for then payin $300 for it. But id rather stick with grimyer shit.

BTW,
I just got my 16mb of memry for my S20. This shit used to be able to record for 8 seconds in 32khz Stereo 16-bit. Now it records 2 minutes at that same quality. The other thing is, i got an internal zip drive from a computer i found. And i dont know how to, but a guy from my work is gonna be tryin to get a floppy-to-zip-ide converter, so i can have a zip on my S20.

I e-mailed akai with what im doin, and they said that nobodys ever tried puttin a zip on a S20 before and they said good luck and tell them how it works out.

This shit is gonna be pimp when im finished.
