i dont know! all i know is the information below. The part im going to be aware is that "Participants must sign a showcase agreement". I can wait to read that and see whats the attrap.
Participants must sign a showcase agreement. (Not to be confused with audition agreement.)
Soul City organizers reserve the right to refuse any entry at any time.
Each participants selected and contacted after the audition, must pay the $100.00 preparation fee. The $100 fee includes:
Professional photo session (head shot) with make-up artist, and hair and wardrobe stylist
Maximum 1 hour consultation with an industry professional in your specialized field
Make-up artist, and hair and wardrobe stylist for showcase
Gift bag from sponsors
Group participants will pay $500.00 per group
All background performers will be admitted at our discretion
Deadline for payment of showcase entrance fee is April 30, 2004.
Entries will not be guaranteed until fees are paid in full
Fees are payable by cash or money order.
For group participants
Upon receipt of payment, appointments with hair and wardrobe stylists, make-up artists and other professionals prior to the event will be scheduled for showcase participants.
Participants must be available all day on Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, 2004, for industry consultations and photography sessions.
Attendance of 2 rehearsals prior to the showcase is mandatory; Date and Time to be confirmed.

All "consultants" probably received a flat rate notwithstanding the amount of people showing up. Perhaps they are paid from this.
Out of 1,000 hypothetically, 100 are selected. Out of these, let's say half are groups, and half are single artists.
50 groups x 500 dollar group fee = 25,000 dollars
50 single artists x 100 = 5000 dollars
I'm being conservative. Maybe more people showed up, Producer GyaL?
30,000 dollars from the showcase + 25,000 dollars from the initial 25 dollar entry fee = 55,000 dollars total.
(I hope I was correct with the 25 dollar entry fee. Was that for all people trying to audition for the showcase?)
Anyway, that's a nice windfall. 55,000 dollars for a couple days.
Do 10 auditions per year in the country. Soul City makes over 500,000 dollars in income per annum.

thanks to everyone..... but im sad to say that my artist called and say that she dosent want to go further in the process. She say that she dosent feel ready, because the way they are acting, its huge. She's only 17 and want to finish school before...... the woman told my artist that she respect her decision and she wants to keep contact with her, because she is mad good.
They only took 15 peoples in a total of maybe 300 peoples. well, thats it...

what? this contest was not about me, its about mc, singer , dancers or models. Not producers. I think i did not explain myself very well. Something i have learn about all this, is that, they dont care about your beats, about your style, about your lyrics. What they need is a good character for their Market. They are looking for people original who got skills, and then, they want to give them a new look, new outfits to see who could be potentially good looking...again, for their market.
If my artist was a winner, she would have to give up my producing, go to the states and use Their styles of music that would fit with her. She would have to start over again, like a new born learning. Yes, maybe this is would have be a good opportunity, but my artist said maybe next year she will be ready to do that. Would you, guys, give up on what you are just to please their market ?? would you loose yourself just to be in the game, in their control?? anyways, like i said, its sad... the Chief Executive Officer understood that. Its too bad though.
