Lately, I have been fiending for that official sounding bass.. I was just wondering who on here actually incorporates a live bass guitar into thier recordings? I remember reading something Markn posted in a thread about using his bass guitar. Is it difficult to match chords (for someone like me with no formal bass guitar training) or get the tuning right?

I incorporate live bass into some of my beats

like any other instrument it takes patience and time to develop your ear and skill

it can be done without formal training but of course a lesson or two will help you understand quicker

without any training it will take you longer to find the correct notes but if you have your mind set you can do it

Word, how important is a good amp? Or can I use it with my computer and get a vst plug-in for that (like a virtual amp)? Which is better?

yea i use my bass guitar in some of my recordings i run my bass into my behringer v-amp which is like amp modelling rack unit and then into my sequencer, for a total beginner you're not guna be able to play particularly good basslines its like anything you have to spend time and practice it, however its pretty simple to lay down simple basslines right away if you got a good ear. and you can get bass guitars pretty cheap if you look around get a 2nd hand or just a cheap one to start with you're not guna be using it on stage or woteva so its only got to be an average bass a best ! once u've learnt it tho it certainly opens up a whole new load of things u can do...

Yeah, that sounds dope! I eventually want to incorporate alot of live instruments into my stuff. So, I need to kind of learn the ropes before I step into buying all this stuff. I think a couple lessons may be a wise decision. That way I can learn how to play something decent.

I've used it on some new junk. It came out real nice. If you can find an "real" sounding bass guitar patch that incorporates all the charictaristics of real bass playing, you should use it. I've got a CD Rom that has multisampled guitars and basses and when played correctly, you cannot tell the difference.

Yeah, those are cool too. My only problem is finding the one's that are worthy of using. I have bought some of those in the past that just weren't the right style of bass, u know what I mean? The bassline's were on some Seinfeld sounding ish, lol...

yea i mean amps sound better but you've got a big fuckin amp to store then and the fact you have to set up the mics to record etc and you gotta worry about mic placement and ambience then me personally DI'd bass is the way to go for 90% of my hip hop tracks !

yea i plan to get a few more live instruments myself for percussion and have got a few players i can use to ass live stuff if i need to in the future.

theres a nice bass vst out there i think it may be called trilogy but it gives you the noise made from playing the strings aswell as the bass sound so it sounds like someone actually played the bass my m8 uses it all the time and hes got sum real nice sounds out of it !

u dont always have to mic ur bass, although that would be the best way

u can record straight from line out if you choose and tweak it to sound right once its recorded

there are some pretty good sounding bass modules and vst's out today, but some technical stuff just can be done on them although the notes may sound correct

no i know i just DI my bass but if you want to take full advantage of an amp its best to mic it otherwise get some amp modelling software !
