That's one way to create Lo-Fi. The other way is to use lots of reverb, clean jazz guitar or piano, insert background noises without using distortion. Basically Chillhop.- V.J. Retro

Exactly. Most jazz samples usually get incorporated into Boom Bap Beats. If it's royalty free, I wouldn't hesitate to use pre-made loops but I still try to make it unique by chopping, time stretching, pitch-shifting and layering.
