Sounds like the weight on the arm may be too heavy would be my next guess.. You dont want it "Diggin" into the record... Dust , needle , weight , stylus . Thats the checklist that Im thinking for starters... -

You know truely finding management is the hardest thing I think.. I mean effective believes in your shit as much as you do type management. Not down to screw you out of everything you have done and are tryin to do type management. Im real familiar with the latter type. -
