Very dramatic!! The chip-tune/Arcade vibe makes me want to pump some more quarters into this track lol!!!! The synth melody is a bit too sharp in tone and texture for the rest of the track. Not sure if that's what your were going for - but a HP filter with some down sampling may have helped it...- BiggChev

How to get 'choppy' drums?!
My first thought is to not time stretch your drum loop. If you tempo match and/or stretch your drum break/loop to your working tempo then it won't have that choppy feel. The only other obvious thing I can think of is, a long collected/curated library of drum samples. For example, a kick pulled... -

I use compression on virtually EVERYTHING. If i have reverb on one of drum elements - I'll use compression on my drum bus to give me a pumping feel. Most of my stuff is lo-fi/downtempo jazz-esque. Side chaining compression from the kick to bass and pad sounds definitely fits the aesthetic... -

This is actually an often over-looked piece of deconstruction. I imagine, it's helped with arrangements as well. Dynamics often play into builds and releases in tension - which is an integral part in making (pun intended) 'dynamic' and captivating arrangements. -
