Why are we dumbing down HipHop?

I've always said that hip hop was deliberately dumbed down to turn a profit. When hip hop was all about skills, most MC's were talking over the average joe's head. Granted, this generally means that you need to step up your understanding, but really what it did was kind of alienate cats. When...

OMG this Corona is kicking my ass

interesting mix. We did flaming dr peppers with Devils Spring 161 proof vodka, rootbeer schnapps, and a tall plastic tumbler of beer or malt liquor (cheap shit works as well as good shit).

OMG this Corona is kicking my ass

Manly men drink bourbon, moonshine in a pinch, but bourbon is preferred. For me, it's Knob Creek or Woodford Reserve (the best there is!), Old Granddad if I'm going cheap. Gentleman Jack is king when I'm going Tenesee Bourbon, standard Old Tyme Old No. 7 Jack when I'm being a cheap ass. If...

What are you working on right now?

I have a number of things going on right now. I'm working on what's supposed to be a hip hop/backpacker-type instrumental EP, but I'm now giving thought to picking up the mic again for one or two tracks. Then there's my minimal techno, electro, ghettotech, and deep house stuff. The work...

    ENSONIQ ASR-10 or cheaper equipment.

With one of the original ASR-X's, with the original OS, yeah, I can see that. With the last update, it's pretty stable. Then too, I never screwed around with the onboard fx while working on a beat. There's also the ASR-X Pro. Either one, they're dirt cheap on ebay nowadays.

    ENSONIQ ASR-10 or cheaper equipment.

For Software: Reason or FL Studio. Hardware: ASR-X or MPC 2000. If you like the sound of the ASR-10, get an ASR-X.

just curious, how is it a pain in the ass? My MPD16 worked without any problems or configuration. I just open up FPC and it works.

Tempo changes in the middle of a sample

sometimes it's just human error. I had a Roy Ayers sample I was working on many years ago and couldn't get it to work right for shit. The problem was that the band on a whole appeared to be following the timing of the drummer, and if the drummer slowed or sped up even slightly, the band...

    vsti's taxing my cpu

So... Last night, right after submitting my response, I fired up Cubase and made a little electro-ish track using nothing but synth-type VSTi's (no samplers at all). AMD Athlon XP2000+ MSI K7 Master-S motherboard (Onboard U160 SCSI) 1GB Kingston RAM M-Audio Audiophile 192 I ran...

    vsti's taxing my cpu

VSTi's run off CPU, unless they're samplers then they runn off both. Synth plugins like FM8 or Absynth are very floating point intensive which has everything to do with the FPU in your processor and nothing to do with RAM.

    New Lambo! WoW!

There's a few cars from the 70's that grabbed my attention, most noteably the Maserati Merak, Lamborghini Silhouette, Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer, and DeTomaso Pantera as they all employed very similar, yet distinctive styling (The BMW M1 also fits into that category, as does the Silhouette based...

    New Lambo! WoW!

hehe... not yet, but soon though. If I find the right car(s), by next summer. The flip side to that is that I wanted to design cars when I was younger, so I studied the cars of my era (70's and 80's) and the history of many marquees.

    New Lambo! WoW!

Spec-wise, it's a monster, but it's still a Dodge. There's little prestige in owning a Dodge, no matter how fast it is. There's prestige, a heritage in owning Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Porsche, DeTomaso, Maserati, Jaguar, et-al. These brands have racing histories that American nameplates...
