From my point of view, I find it very difficult to even get people to listen to my music, let alone like it. I use soundcloud and youtube, but I get very little listeners compared to years ago when I had my website and myspace. My process when mixing each channel/bus is 1) gain, 2) eq/filter, 3) compress, 4) saturation. Hard clipping instead of soft clipping can work well with snares as it adds a crunchy distortion On reverb busses I cut below 500-600hz- 2GooD Productions

Before I ever make my mix "hot" with saturation and limiting up to -6db of compression its usually hitting around -16db LUFS, then with saturation and limiting, if everything else has been equed and gain staged right, then I can usually push the final output to -8 LUFS integrated- 2GooD Productions
