filtering sounds
Around the Doggystyle-time Dre did sample alot. Even if you came across the sample it might not be THE sample. Dre maybe got a extended version with some other instrumental parts, Dre maybe got it replayed, or Dre maybe just filtered it alot. -

well, alot of old records have vocals and instrument seperated on left and right. so you can check that. but using a vocal sample from another record than the one u used for the rest of the track isn't really a good idea. and if you got a composed beat, but only want sampled vocals, then shame... -

offset drum pattern?
There's alot of way to achive a "offset feel". Jazzy Jeff mentioned having his hi-hats going a bit offset to get a more "offset" feel. If you make your drums with quantization you won't achive this. -

Sweden got more good producers than that. Salla from The Latin Kings is great, Masse his brother is great. Hell, even Ken Ring got a track on the new Smif n Wessun. Topaz is awsome. Collone & Webb has produced tracks for Slick Rick, same with Rusiak. He produced for Slick Rick. QDIII aka...- Vince
