Why is the tonic so important for melodies?

If you used D F G A and E in your melody, that might as weel be in D minor not necessraly C major. It depends on context...You are composing over chords?

Why are scales important when making melodies?

the key word here is "key"...so if you want to compose using all 12 tones not thinking about key, that is ok...but if you and I are playing music together we need to know in which musical key we are or it would be chaos... :) I hope this clear things up...

    Showcase - March 16-22, 2020

@TjombaBeats Your beats have a nice soundtrack quality to it, at times they sound a little bit too harsh with the saw synths and wobble bass, but that just my taste...The second beat is my favourite. @Un4zn I like the violins on this, nice rhythm and all, maybe you should add some long legato...

How has the technical side of music translated into a creative vision for you?

Yeah I agree...Also I think experimentation is a big and important element, many times I've come up with great ideas just by accident. Misplaced my kick , or hitting the "wrong"key...but it sounds better than done "correctly"...
