    Ever think about selling out?

Okay we all know what selliing out is , the question is why do you feel you have to sell out ? I'm about keeping it funky , so I look at dudes like Pete Rock and Primo , the late J Dilla , not to mention 9th Wonder . There are millions of people who demand that particular supply of music and...

    Saigon

Anybody that is invited to share a track with Black Thought has to have skills . But even before I heard that Roots album , I peeped him on a J-Love mixtape ( Stocking Cap ) .

    Any SP 1200 Users here?

Every thing you need to know is right on the top panel . It is a very simple machine that you should learn pretty quick . My advise is try to make whole beats with it ( baselines and all .) If you can do that , you will see your overall sampling skills will improve and you might get hooked on it.

Ever feel like your losing ..

Dont make any beats . Make new drums and sounds / samples . For me this is a good way to refresh my ears then the creativity usually comes in . Right now I'm giving my bass guitar more time than the beats . I just started learnig the bass this christmas so I feel I got way more catching up to do...

    My Newest Weapon

I just got a bass for christmas . I didn't play before though. I'm trying to get in atleast 45 minutes everyday on it. Now I see how that play while you sample feature on the 2500 would come in real handy.

    Anyone use an EMU sp1200??

Overall, the most important production instrument

Or you could just master the art of sampling and be so so on the keys. This is the closest thing to having the real instrument.Plus if your trying to emulate real instruments ,you will have to listen to a whole lot of real instruments for a long time. When you listen to alot of records , you will...

    Sample Drums

If you use an MPC ,then just snip the snares out ,then use a little attack and decay at the start and end points.I know you can do that with software though.

What would you say is your weakness?

If I spent the same amount of free time I DO have actually making beats and learning another instrument as I do looking for records ,i'd pretty much be a beast.

    Whats the use ?

I've heard some of your tracks and they bang, you make good music, but having to do alot of things you don't love, this is just not true. Lil John and Toomp are very nice with what they do , but nobody will ever tell them that they have to do some sample heavy joint to be more well rounded.The...

    Whats the use ?

This is something that's been on my mind for a very long time and I just wanted to see how other people felt about it.If you make the boom bap style of music and not crunk, snap ,hyphy or even the chipmunk soul joints ,is there any reason to even try to fit in with the mainstream? It's just...

shit that makes a producer determined to suceed

For me it's everything .I get fueled off of the naysayers and the encouragements. One thing that got to me though is seeing cats do it , and I mean really do it, cats that you know or had aquaintences with.I'm from the D.C. area and since 2000 , I've seen 3 dudes really do it .The last time I...

    PRODUCERS...ever noticed this?

Or another thing that happens with me is I'll be listening to my records, find a sample that's HOT,put the beat together, get into that zone etc. then I realize that the sound quality of the sample just wont cut it.That only happens every once in a blue moon though.

    What Do You Do?

Okay, this has been bugging me for atleast 7,8 years now. What do you do when you do these beats on a hobby level but you want to get involved professionally. You have a sister thats been pro (singer/songwriter) all her adult life so she has mad relationships. You make beats but more in a sample...
