Yeah I always try to chop. Nowadays the art of sampling isn't mainly about crate digging anymore, with all the samples you want available in a couple of mouse clicks and where almost every record is sampled before. -
Sounds familiar samples?
I really like sample based hiphop and find the originals to see how the producer made a beat with it. Sometimes the original is so strong that they didn't even try to 'flip' it. It would murder the sample. Does these songs sound familiar? -

What are some of your biggest pains in the butt at the moment regarding beat making?
You should try out Directwave in FL studio... Add the whole song as a .wav into Directwave and copy it 10 times. This way, you don't have to precut your sample and you're able to (re)set the startingpoint individually. I always find that pre-chopping the song you sample is killing for... -

Nice work (sample is dope)! Some things i've noticed; The end of the bassline (lowest tones) don't fit the sample (key). Have you tried leaving out all but the first bass note? Creating a bassline can be tricky when a sample has little to no chord progression. On the right side of the stereo...- TWU

Beat1: Shakira vibes... Sadly there are some dissonant tones in this. Beat2: Pretty decent. This beat needs a bit of mixing to glue everything together as a whole. I think there's room left for an instrument in the (low) mids... Maybe simplify the bassline some more and give it some low end...- TWU

Headphone amp?
It might have something to do with the frequency range of your AI, where it has a roll off on the deep lows... -
Headphone amp?
What audio interface do you have? And do they match in terms of Ohms? And be aware that studio headphones usually output 'true' sound. Using a headphone amp instead of your AI isn't going to make a difference (if they're in the same quality/price range). -

I think it's 'Breathe' from Firestarter. Either they put a massive distortion on the sample or they just copied the chords... -

Dope entries! I expected more chimes and 'rock the boat' smooth as butter kind if beats... Some really nailed it with the sounds/instruments, but are off with the chord progression. Others are really good, but lack that typical 90's vibe. Tough one to vote...- TWU
