    i think what cold truth said in his interview was the most key thing ive heard about making basslines. Make the bassline somewhat follow the kick. Make sure when a kick thumps you've got the right key bassnote to plop ontop of that kick. It really makes your tracks bang.

    Try and also think of creative rhythyms for your counter melody. The counter melody should kind of bounce between the original melody and fill in the blanks ya mean. Then you can accentuate at intervals with chimes, triangles, adding highs in your mix is key, maybe a tamb. or something of that...

    when your in piano roll make sure you overlap the notes as you change them in the melody. After they are overlapping then set the portamento or slide to where you desire. It wont work usually when the notes arent overlapping
