    Clashing frequencies causing artifacts

When I have clashing frequencies I'm usually able to fix it with EQ. I start by finding the most dominant frequency in the first instrument (It's usually in the upper to middle section of the mids). After that I go to my second instrument and lower that same frequencie range to give the other...

    Introduction

Really, it's the nook and cranny stuff. I don't have any real life producer friends to ask about very distinct problems that I may have, and youtube doesn't always have the answer. For instance, there was the issue that I was having with bass levels. I'm pretty sure it was you that told me to...

Finished Beat It Up! - Battle #141

I think I won this one because my beat was a little more hip hop oriented than the other two, but regardless @Armani and @Vossi Beats both did a really good job!

Tutorials 10 Ways to Be a Beat Maker No One Listens To

I really felt this one. Not only does being unoriginal hurt your sound, but it also leaves something lacking when you're finished with your song. There is a certain connection that is lost between you and your art. Instead of feeling like a creator you feel more like a manufacturer, and that's...

    Selling beats with samples?

I know the name I just didnt have it on hand when I first posted. Naming the tracks after the sample is a good idea though.

    Selling beats with samples?

Hmm.. I could recreate it. A virtual drum kit + Tape effects and call it a day, lol.

    Selling beats with samples?

I'm going to put it on beat stars and send them a link (if I decide to sell). I can't remember the name of the band I sampled from but it's really common one, like maybe the Skull Snaps or James Brown. I have a folder with original breakbeats that I pulled it from. I normally use that folder...

    Selling beats with samples?

I am not at the stage in my "career" where I'm trying to sell beats, but I have been getting inquiries lately. I hardly ever use samples that aren't royalty free, but recently I made a beat using an old breakbeat from the 70's, and of course... Someone wants to buy it. Anybody have any clue how...

    You Unoriginals

I was actually going to make this same point. Now everything is direct/ no filter... "Back in the day", you would have copycat bands/ rappers but as soon they got their deal, the record labels would tweak their image and sound so that they had their own lane. Yes.. There was a Pepsi for every...

    Sticky Beat This! Theme Suggestions

Idk if it's been done before, but maybe an 80's theme? You have the first wave of boom bap for bappers, then plenty of elements to choose from for the trappers.

    Beat This! - July 14-15, 2021

@crog85 I really liked your beat btw bro. It wasn't really trap to me. Had more of a TX or Memphis Phonk vibe. Really dope shit. Congrats on the win.

    Beat This! - July 14-15, 2021

I had a hard time choosing between @Iron Keys , @Vossi Beats , and @Delta_Nine , but I wound up voting for Delta. All three of those submissions were super solid, so I ended up voting based on my personal preference. All that being said everyone did a wonderful job, and I appreciate those of you...

    Beat This! - July 14-15, 2021

I almost voted @Iron Keys Yeah bro I feel you. I tried some different things with the Drums as far as the snare and transition go, but I got stuck. I couldn't come up with anything that sounded good, quick enough. I added a flute and just dropped it out on the chorus to make the beat a little...

    Tips for monitoring bass levels?

I appreciate the tip. My monitors play the sub frequencies pretty well, I think my inexperience is just more to blame with how I've managed them. I took Iron Keys advice and started paying more attention to the harmonics of the bass, and that really seams to be helping.

    Tips for monitoring bass levels?

Dude.. you had me cracking up with that last line, because that's exactly what happens! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Thankyou for the insight. I've never thought about the harmonics on my bass unless I'm mixing a really clanky sounding bass guitar or something else unusual. Makes sense...

    Tips for monitoring bass levels?

Thank you. That is a very good insight and I might give those programs a try and see if anything helps. I feel like matching and comparing my mix to others is a good route as well.

    Tips for monitoring bass levels?

I'm still farely new to mixing. I think my skills are progressing farely well, but I'm still getting hung up on the bass. Often times my track will sound good on the monitors (or head phones) then I bring it into the car to "test drive" it and it seems either way too loud or way too quiet. I'm...
