    07-28-09 flippy flip

Yes everyone, just made my version & checked yours out. Solace, I'm feeling that shit, sounds proper hectic. Like the breakdown as well, giving the MC time to catch their breath. I would spit over this, gives me a mad frenetic vibe. Sucio, you've got the illest intro. The chops & the drums...

Yeah good advice bro thanks. Pitch shifting's a nice idea. Just getting the ball rolling again & shaking off the rust innit. I'm feelin your child abuse track by the way, even though that's off topic I know haha.

Yes peeps, been a long time, I've been away for a while, really good to see this shit is still going. Yo Relic nice one for the sample, respect, had a little go at flippin it: http://www.zshare.net/audio/62663690a6280a46/ Very rusty so feedback is more than welcome. Thanks people!

Big props for getting yourself out there and working with big name artists man, always inspiring to see. Don't knock artists if they're giving you work though, wack or not! Big up star

Can't believe it, I sampled this about 2 years ago, got the original pressing. If I've got time will give it another go though and try something more creative (my original was a loop EQ'd with drums). Respect Iceman

Damn, gonna have to scrap that Rob Bass tango remix project now. Anyways, some really inspiring stuff I've been hearing, here's my feedback: ForestGlenn: Really nice, definite shades of James Bond but I'm liking the mellow vibe. Very musical, great work. Skidflow: Liking the mad sounds in this...

Easy all, been a long time. Hope I'm not too late, had a quick bash at one, it's called 'It takes 2 to tango': http://www.soundclick.com/visceralhiphop Will have a listen to the others and post some feedback shortly, nice 1.

Ryan Leslie all by his loney.....wit an engeneer...still hot

Ha ha, that guy's in the zone. That's probably the best way to work, enjoying it and not treating it like a chore. To be honest, you could do the same thing with some vstis or just samples, but what the hell, if there's all those instruments lying around might as well use them. Nice video anyway...

    Ripping from tape in stereo?

OK, I found out what the problem is - I was using the wrong adaptor, instead of a double phono to stereo, I needed two phono to mono plugs, so one can go in each input. Simple but it's these little things you have to learn to get over the learning curve innit. Much respect to everyone who posted...

    Ripping from tape in stereo?

Thanks for all your input, but I just realised that it's not the fact it's tape that's the problem, I tried recording from vinyl and I'm getting the same problem. It's a new setup so I've not got to grips with it yet, but I can't seem to see any problems in the Windows settings. Maybe it's the...

    Ripping from tape in stereo?

Yeah, that's exactly what I've done, I choose in soundforge to record in stereo but it just ends up on one side. It does play back in stereo (I've listened to each speaker on its own) but the wav is always mono. I couldn't plug RCA inputs directly in to the soundcard 'cause it only accepts 1/4"...

    Writing Original Hooks

You could try and write it around a vocal phrase, using the amount of syllables as a basis. Just one way of approaching it

    Ripping from tape in stereo?

Cheers Relic, nice suggestions, especially just splitting or panning the mono wav. The only reason I'm not running RCA plugs out the tape deck is 'cause it doesn't have the outputs, just headphones. Shoddy innit. But still, much apprechiated, if anyone else does want to write something brilliant...

    Ripping from tape in stereo?

Easy all, just been having a go at sampling from tape and I can't get sound forge to record in stereo. I'm recording from the headphone output of the cassette player in to a phono to stereo adaptor and then finally in to the interface via stereo jack. Any suggestions? Nice one

Just passing through thought I'd leave some feedback: open mind: sounds to me like something that would work as an interlude but I couldn't imagine an MC over it really 5th sequence: It's dope man I like it, nice drums and arrangment. Sounds smooth like some Hi-Tek/DJ Spinna kind of shit...

    How Many Records you got?

Actually I was well off, had a flick through them last night and I've got well over 100. I underestimated my collection

    How Many Records you got?

About 60, roughly 25 hip-hop the rest ranging from jazz to prog rock, soundtracks, funk and soul. I'm a genuine music lover though and it was hip-hop that was my gateway in to a lot of other genres

    Digging Digging/Sampling Tips/Techniques

Good read man, nice one. I'll try and contribute a few more tips but you pretty much said it all. I'll be getting back in to producing in a month or so when I get a new computer (been saving up for over a year now) Digging: Try and get to the music shop at a quiet time so you're not waiting...

    pitch of bass...

What I'd do is tweak the bass to the same pitch as your loop or whatever then find the key of your sample (if your ears are like mine and not that musical then use trial and error by going up and down on the keyboard). When you've found the key then experiment, use all the notes of a chord to...
