    I agree. In my situation, being from Connecticut, the closest major cities are boston and NYC. So i just figure NYC is the best for me. Thanks for the info. My only problem is finding a lawyer that REALLY has the connections and is not just leading me on to get the money.

    if you go to max you risk the signal clipping resulting in digital distortion which sounds really ugly. I would set it low and boost it when you see the need. You can also raise the gain of a low recording in your sequencer program

    monitor headphones vs monitor speakers

    Obviously you dont read MIX magazine but what I meant was that the pan position won't translate as accurately back to the monitors as you think. But then again I obsess over the detail of a mix.

    Sampling

    sampling is dying. If I sample I only sample things that no one would know I sampled. Or i chop up a sample (e.g guitar lead) and rearrange it to make it my own. But I agree, anyone can sample and make a beat, but a true producer will create all his own parts.

    I would recommend you jump back and forth from headphones and monitors. However don't pan in headphones because they give you an inaccurate stereo field perception. Also, headphones eliminate all the room distortion you get such as early reflections and standing waves.
