Why do people buy Apple products?

You can't and you know that. Mac's no longer use Intel processors so there's no way to do a direct comparison anymore. I'm also a former VCP holder (4) and I work in esx and vsphere day-to-day for one of my clients. I'm probably going to take 7 towards the end of this year after I get Azure...

Why do people buy Apple products?

I'll chime in here: Owning Apple products is seen as a "flex", as the young folks like to say. It's a way to say "I got money" just like a Gucci belt, a bottle of Henney, or Balenciaga shoes. Interestingly enough, the two largest groups of iPhone owners are those in the upper middle class...

    What gear is everybody rocking?

Once I got the sub integrated sound-wise, I'm happy with it. The sub provided a very needed sonic anchor, it just took some time and a lot of listening to stuff through it to get it dialed in just right. I have a newer pair of Mackie CR3's that I got to replace the pair with the blown tweeters...

What you use to make beats is very important

True, but the MPC 60/60 II are also 12 bit but they don't sound quite as crunchy as the sp1200 AND their sequencer has a different feel to it. This is as much about the sound as it is about the sequencer's feel. The quantization and swing characteristics also play a part here.

    What gear is everybody rocking?

Made some additions to the setup since the last time I posted: I fried the shit out of my Mackie CR3 tweeters doing something stupid, so I ended up copping a pair of Presonus Eris 3.5's, then about a month later I added the Presonus Sub 8. Got a Roland SP404A, then found a conductor's stand at...

What you use to make beats is very important

As to the OP: I fully agree. When I really got started, I worked through the limitations of the gear I had: a Yamaha MU5 (later a Roland DS330) and a 486 SX25 running Power Tracks Pro 3.0 because it allowed you to load samples into memory, but the limitation was you could only trigger one at a...

What you use to make beats is very important

Not really. I'm in a group on FB for the SP1200, and every now and then a cat comes along and posts some late 80's/early 90's House joint he's done. After listening to them, I began to understand WHY certain Chicago House tracks sounded the way they did: Purely because of the SP1200's sampler...

    RIP Studio One

Studio Vision was out front when it came to sequencing and audio. Granted, Steinberg change the game when they dropped Cubase VST, but Vision was still rock solid and probably would have adapted VST and ASIO in the same way Logic did around that time. But my guess would be they would have been a...

    RIP Studio One

I was going to post about Gibson buying Opcode. Opcode's Vision was one of the dopest sequencers you could buy back inna day and their Studio line of MIDI interfaces were rock solid from what I remember. Then Gibson bought it and all that goodness went down the toilet.

    What gear is everybody rocking?

I used to sell the DR-5 and SR-16 when I worked in MI sales back in the 90's. The SR-16 I ended up selling to a lot of guitarists and bassists just so they could practice. The DR-5... I can remember selling one. As neat as it seemed, it was almost always avoided and sat in our stock at both of...

    What gear is everybody rocking?

Yep, that's the DS330. I call my DS330 and DR660 the "wonder twins" 'cause Roland decided to use the same tabletop case for both units (as well as the Sound Canvas SC-33 which the DS330 is based on). I used to make beats on the DS330 back around '95-96 along with Power Tracks Pro 3.0 on a...

    What gear is everybody rocking?

Also, not pictured is a Tascam US-428 audio interface/console, M-Audio Axiom Air Mini 32 keyboard controller, Tascam DP008-EX multitrack recorder, and a Pyle PDMIC71 condenser microphone. The last two are currently in my 23 year old daughter's possession 'cause she's expressed an interest in...

Off Topic Why Producers Should Demand Respect

I actually came to same something similar. Not long befoe this article was originally written, cats were outchea with bootleged FL Studio and a laptop selling beats like K Mart blue light specials. It was entirely too common to see $10 per beat or 5 exclusives for $20. That's what tanked the...

Production Retro Gear: A Look Back At The Alesis ADAT

The OG setup in damned near everybody's studio was three ADATs and a 24 channel Mackie 8-Bus console. Less common was one of Tascam's 8bus joints like the M2600 (which I loved). Cheap spots would cop those Berhinger rip-offs of the Mackies.

Production Retro Gear: A Look Back At The Alesis ADAT

I recorded my first demos in '92 and 93 on ADAT. I really think the single biggest draw to it was the ability to record at CD quality for cheap (relatively speaking), and that it's modular. You can buy as many as you can afford and link them together in a matter of minutes. In fact, the project...

Sticky *** OFFICIAL *** Classic Hip Hop videos

Last couple for the night. So, a little bit on these cats. The Knucklehedz were actually a part of The Hit Squad. They were up next before EPMD broke up in '92/93 and the remaining member of the Hit Squad, Hurricane G, was supposed to come out after them.

Sticky *** OFFICIAL *** Classic Hip Hop videos

For those that don't know: The Whooliganz was a group made of The Alchemist, then known as Mudfoot, and now actor Scott Caan, son of actor James Caan. ^^^ This was the only single released. The album was finished but shelved by Tommy Boy. Scott Caan, btw, can spit. He was on the Lord...
