Not that I recommend this, but sometimes I hit up the old "beats" I uploaded here just to remind myself how fucking terrible I started off. Literally got a DAW and just started mashing buttons.
I even picked a weird DAW no one uses (Serato Studio), but it has grown on me.
I only used 3 decks for this one: drums (two kicks, snare, open and closed hats, loud echoey tap), bass, and a ragtime-y sample called "Foot Warmer" from like 1922. Kept the sampling cuts shorter (and less recognizable as the original music) and let the drums and bass stick out a little more...
About to wrap up #5 tonight (which will replace #1), so my 4 are good to go.
So to be clear, I can use any of my 4 beats—or any other beat I want?—as the initial submission to basically "audition" to be included, and if accepted I'll submit all 4 for the actual competition. Accurate, @Fade?
I finished #3, but think I'm going to replace #1 after all, so I technically only have 2 done now.
Got a nice sample loop and drum pattern coming together for the next one, though. Been vibing out to it while I work.
Surprised we only have 10 entries for this one. Beat This usually brings 20+.
Fewer entries = better chances for me, though, and I'm definitely good with that.
