Sampling records or AI, using sample packs or AI-generated sounds, sounds from TV or from the street—I don’t see any creative difference. We use sounds. who cares where they come from?
I agree 100% with this. The issue is with the option to now obtain AI Stems, some could simply put the stems they want on their beat, without slicing and re-arranging, and still claims it's their own, with proofs.

Taking a train sound and fliipin it into a beat VS taking an AI generated song and flipping it into a beat is the same in my opinion too, although one is way more insane vs the other.

Prompting stems, pasting it and say you did it is retarded. Sadly, we would all need to upload videos/screen recordings to prove we really made it and this is were it doesnt make much sense.

One of the rewards of old school beat making was the expanding knowledge of music that went with samples/records digging.

One of my fear is that because of copyright laws and the ease of access to ai slop, places will increasingly stop playing human made music and play ai instead for economic reasons.

Copyright legislation should adapt, somehow, to ensure human made music remains preferred, if not outright incentivized.

As it stands, they actively encourage ai right now, which is less than ideal

Using samples of human made music carried with it the appreciation and knowledge of that music and these artists, it ensures that human, organic culture remains relevant.

But current laws push people towards ai, by trying to protect the artists

This should be addressed and it isn’t as much as I can hear about it

moreover AI systems were trained on human music without consent or compensation…

the use of AI is problematic, but for other reasons.

Im pretty certain one of the tracks is AI, sounds exactly like something Ace Studio would spit out with all the nuances I have noticed from that software, one is a little sus, but Im not so sure about it, as for the rest, I have no idea.
One beat in round 1 really stands out to me above all the others. But pretty dope stuff all around.

With you 100 on these thoughts here.

There's a sad thing too, that copyright adapts so frequently, and sometimes not for the best always, like copyright opened up to allow people to do covers because of youtube etc. Not entirely sure the ins and outs whether it needs to be monetised to the original writers or what.

But yeah, the big issue was streaming really needed to be regulated properly to be like radio royalties.

But one of the issues of course were these clowns spamming dog shit music and using streaming bots etc. There should always have needed to be quality control. Streaming platforms should have served like radio stations, tastemakers, instead it's a free for all of 'content' how the platforms see it, merely 'content', little slaves churning out 'content' for them to earn big money whilst paying nothing. Yet typebeat makers and the like thought they'll become millionaires spamming platforms with that shit.

The whole "you will own nothing and be happy" from the WEF is coming to fruition, with announcements like the one from Sony saying buying a game doesn't mean you own it. The transfer from physical media to digital means we have nothing tangible like a cd or dvd that we physically own, we now temporarily license rights to play music, which can be taken away from us.

AI is going to take over music licensing as its more cost effective to get AI to produce a soundtrack for TV, games and movies. The labels got greedy after hip hop made music sample licensing a very lucrative business for themselves. The industry has shot itself in the foot, their greed has made it more cost effective for people to find other ways to license samples or music for soundtracks, the same will happen with games.

If buying something means you don't own it, then why pay for it when you can just pirate it too.

The same is happening with the music making software industry, with suppliers switching to a subscription based model for DAWs and vsts. AI monthly credits for AI powered software and credit top ups.
The market is transitioning from owning to "renting". We can only afford so many subscriptions before we run out of money but in the long run we end up paying many times over what we would have paid before. Corporate greed is killing everything for the consumer and will ultimately kill the bottom line for the corporations as we can no longer afford to be fleeced by them, greed is killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

People are generally lazy and want quick returns for minimum effort, much like the corporations. This is why AI slop is growing massively on youtube, social media and within music, content content content, clicks and views, whether that content is a lie or the truth, art or immitation, the clicks, views and engagement generate cash. Art of all types is dying as a result.

I agree 100%. When I started to see music companies starting to bring in a subscription model for plug-ins and now DAWs, I'm glad I have my old model MPC. I'm always checking for new gear and software, and a lot of it is really good, but I'm just glad I have what I have. You can't beat having something mechanical as opposed to something digital that needs to be connected online.

I like that there's some standalone versions with both Akai and NI now, but there's still all the other stuff with plug-ins and activation, etc.

Anyway, but you know what's a great return on investment? ILLMUZIK VIP: https://www.illmuzik.com/vip/ - it 100% supports this site and the paper towels I buy to clean up after I jack off.

Yeah they're doing away with physical games and making it digital only, so you can pay for a game and they can take away your right to play it any moment.

What's worse...

They have also introduced their new "dynamic pricing" which explicitly means... they'll use an algorithm to tell how much you will pay for a game, and whether you pay full price or sale price, etc etc... and they will price the game accordingly.

So you and me could log onto PlayStation store on the same day same time same location, and we'll both see two different prices depending on their profile of us.

It's Westworld coming to reality.

Maybe we'll have a GTA2 style gang loyalty meter. So different companies depending on how they and you swing politically and morally gives you favorably or otherwise.
When it comes to politics its just them vs us. "It's a big club and we aren't in it" - George Carlin
Politics is just getting us to fight among ourselves so we don't unite to deal with the real problem.

It's a shame really but was kinda expecting this would happen. I genuinely just don't get the point of using AI in beat battles.

The level of entry differs between prompting, bear making (shortcut here) and « being a musician »

What you as the musician get in return is where the biggest difference is.

The harder the skill, the deeper you got to dive into the craft, the more complete your understanding of it is.

And in turn, the more you can draw inspiration from.

Taking myself as an example

As a kid/teen, I thought music theory was somewhat useless.

Then I got into jazz, learned some of it, thought jazz was the pinnacle of music and musical freedom and complexity.

Then in my 30s, got into playing classical piano pieces and listening to classical music and opera, getting deeper in theory as well as becoming a more capable musician.

Now the music I make draws from all that, which makes it more personal and deeper (in my own biased opinion)

For the listener, they might not get it entirely, which is fine, but to me, it’s a huge difference and improvement.

Now that also carries whether I use samples (which I seldom do, but it does happen from time to time)

And I would assume, as I haven’t done it, some of it might also transpire into prompting.

But the pleasure and satisfaction I get from crafting the music is so that I’m not interested in making music by prompting.

Getting in that zone, with the experience and luggage I have, is akin to a psychedelic experience I doubt would be accessible through just prompting and waiting for the thing to pop up out of thin air.
