With the Beat Fights, I've been cycling through some older beats. Came across this one from 2015. Mostly sampled. I layered in some additional instruments (piano stabs, sustained horns, and bass).

Kinda amazed that this was done entirely in Maschine - back then I was doing full arrangements in Maschine and just exporting to GarageBand for MP3 rendering.

For context, I was getting back into the 90s/Boom-bap sound quite a bit and listening to a lot of old-school stuff. Would love to hear your thoughts!

It reminds me of the vibe of Us3, that kind of jazzy sound, the chords and so on. And the song flows as if it were played by a band. The very open spatial sound has every instrument placed on a different layer—right/left, front/background, reverb... Nice one!

I love the melodies and the whole vibe of the beat. Super creative without being overproduced. Dope.

Makes me want to jump into my Machine and put something together.

Do you know The Gods Must Be Crazy (produced by El-P) from Armand Hammer's We Buy Diabetic Test Strips album? I recreated it, it's not a remix, there's no samples from the original. I took the structure, the rhythm, even some notes, and I did it my way. I hoped it would be different enough from the original, but it's practically a cover, so I thought it was right to enter it in some competition.

(remastered, that's why lost your like @Kane the MOD . Maybe not the last version, don't know - fired ears now, the other one for sure was weak and dull)

@DJ Excellence The vocal chop seems a bit prominent in the mix, I would try taming it in the high end with a filter to calm it down a bit for when the vocal is there and maybe unfilter it when the vocal drops out at the end. Just to give the vocal a bit more room to breathe

@JECHO On the first beat, once the drums come in its fucking sick. Great transition into the second beat. The 3rd beat is dope too.

@Kane the MOD Not every beat has to be hard hitting to be dope, this beat is the perfect example of that. Bassline is really dope, really compliments the piano. The drum fills and strings are really dope too. Quality.

@BiggChev Dope beat, although Im not a big fan of the snare, sounds very synthetic and like synthesized white noise. Like the use of jazzy brass. The more I listen the only thing Im not keen on is just the snare. A taste thing.

@attila This isnt one of my favourite beats from you, sounds a little busy, especially when the arpeggiator comes in. But I think with the right emcee this could sound really dope
