i think itd be cool if they made some kinda network were two users can log into and use their program with other people and colaborate, for example two people have fruity loops they log onto the network connect and they colaborate on makin a song takin turns putting patterns together and whatnot, anything u guys would like to see software makers do or improve

Yeah Eka Steinberg has VST System Link, which allows you to link up different computers running Nuendo or Cubase within your LAN (Local Area Network) connected to a cable which synchronizes each computer with great accuracy and allows different computers to assume various functions. For example computer A could run all the midi sequencing, Computer B could be for recording all the audio tracks or whatever. But that's within one room not very far apart.

But what Wu was talking about were two, three or however many users could log on from different networks sharing the same program working on it simultaneously, I heard something about that kind of thing being done in various big studios, but I believe they're custom written programs that they have setup. I don't know if anything commericial exists yet, but it is out there. I don't remember what studio does this kind of thing I'll look it up and post it here, but they do it from LA to New York and like London or some other far off place.

Why not start with a zipped looppackage with samples in it for starters and exchange them with each other while making the track. Those files are not so big and there's the same interaction as suggested in the threadstarter.

Yeah that's a great idea too, I just wanted to make Wu aware that his idea does exist, but not on a commercial level because I'm sure it's very expensive, so this is something that the studios that can afford that type of system would setup on there own behalf specific to what they certain requirements.

I've setup an FTP server at home on a Windows 2000 Advanced Server Box and setup an account for my partner, so he can download and upload from the computer. We weren't really working on tracks together but just sharing different files each other needed. You could use the same idea as Formant said zip up the loops/sounds and put them in the shared directory for your partners to get at, it's better in my opinion than emailing because of the quotas that may be present, this way you don't have to worry about how big the file is. This would be hell though if your Internet connection isn't moderately fast.

I know that the art of dj'ing is not the most popular talent right now but I'd like to see a dj scratching program/software that will scratch sample phrases based on the syllables or beats in the phase. i.e. "break it down" has 3 syllables, enter that phase in a bank of 3 syllable scratches and the program will manipulate it automactically. All you have to do is choose which 3 syllable scratch format you want and then add it to your mix. A software program like that would be ideal for perfect on-time scratching with no thd., equal volume, faster and more precise scratches. This really goes against what I believe in as far as "the ART of scratching" but I think it would be an awesome addition to music production and maybe, just maybe, it would help revitalize scratching as an ART. Just a thought...

Hey duke-

You just ReWire Reason into Cubase. You even get individual outputs for your Reason mods into the Cubase SX mixer- problem solved.

What I am looking for is a dedicated software synth strictly for wavetable synth stuff- The PPG Wave was suppossed to be it, but it lags ass and sounds like shit- they're making sure you buy one of their hardware units for that sound- but with only 8 or 10 voices, I think i'd rather just power the processing engine from my PC and use my existing controller for tweaking...

Hey- does anyone know if Reactor can do this? (Wavetable synthesis?) If so, would anyone want to strike a deal for some Mac or PC software???
