I sample a nice riff and then create a beat with it and I want to sell it to a local or foreign rap group.Do I have to provide the sample name and artist in case they want to clear it ?

Somebody ever had this type of situation

Thanks for any replies

I disaggree on this. copywrite dont make a difference beatween a single 2 sec note and an 8 bar orchestral melody. its just that its harder to pin point were it was sampled. And if you just replay the riff instead of sampling it, than its called interpolation and you still have rights to pay.

unless, nnxt , you meant that for a simple riff he doesnt have to take care of it. what i understood is that if it was a riff you didnt have to check ta stuff in general.

correct me if im wrong anyone.

yup, from what i know (which isnt too much lol), anything you sample should, by law, be cleared... whether its a lil snippet or a whole loop....but with lil chops its very difficult to find where they originate so not too kuch need to worry bout them...

my 2 pence

i will go more into deltail this isn't directed toward u im just saying in general

you can't copyright a note.. if that was the case.. i'd go copyright abcdef and G and sue everyone's ass...Just like u can't copyright a Drum hit.. nor really a Drum Loop unless u have a Bass Behind to call it an Actually compostion...

So if u throw on a Record... and there is a CLEAN String hit and u take that out.. no u dont have to pay for that.. thats a Common String hit basic shit.. now its its loop and or comp or you capture more than something open for example a String with the Ambience of the track it came from .. then yes u will need to play for it legally...

lets say u took a Short rif from a ttrack and u had to pay to use it and u didn't after its Been tucked into ur track there is NO Possible way they can proove that unless u leave it Open somewhere in the track.. because what they will do is take the original hit Lay it out and Take ur Hit with all ur Meshed components on it and lay that out and compare them Like finger printing,..

Sorry to beat the Dead horse but its just like Chords U can't copyright a Single chord...
who was that dumbass Guitatriest from that Band Metallica thats tried to Sue that kid for using a Chord that was in one of there songs and a Few tar riffs.. it was all in the paper few years ago.. u just cant copyright things like that.. too a Degree.. i've been there i've been in court for it a few times for this exact thing... So if u not taking a CLEAN riff or at least one u can hind then u will have something to worry about.. shit they not even gonna come for you unless u sellin more than 10 thousands copies anyhow.. anything else would be a waste off time
