boneidle - Nice job on the flip. I dig your style, you got a cool signature sound that's unique. But everytime I hear one of your beats, I wish the tempo was slower. What's the BPM on this joint? it's gotta be in the 100s. Slow it down between 85 to 90 and repost it homey. Keep it up

the mixing on this is sorta bad b/c i'm at the beach this week and forced to make music on my crappy laptop w/out any monitors. i think i need a better bass sound too. i sorta went on a complete tangent on this one- only used the original song for part of it. i was aiming for a creepy/atmospheric feel like gravediggaz or something, definately not a "club track" haha

on to the reviews:

spanish: very solid, i was really feeling the melody and the drums were tight

boneidle: def very creative; i like how everyone seems to have gone in totally different directions on this sample so far. your track might seem faster bpms than it is bc the chops seem to be sped or pitched up, and you trigger them very fast. what software are you using, and how do you get your chops so quick and on time? great work

i like this man u definately got it sounding eerie - real chiller track, vocal sounds good mix aint that bad to say it was done on laptop,

answer to ya question:
i use cubase sx / kontakt2, i chop up in recycle as much as i can of the track, when im slicing i go for as many different sounds as i can get, trying to get as many diff pitch changes as possible in the slices so i have a good scale of keys, also any weird/interesting noises that stick out

i put the rex file into kontakt sometimes about 4 layers of the same one with diff pitch on each one
to get it fast i just knock the pitch up/tuning in kontakt. Usually I speed up a long loop of the sample until it fits with the beat and plays back fast and on beat, if it doesnt fit i go back and mess with the tuning or do it on the fly, like DJing/beatmatching. Sometimes i use the time machine in kontakt when i dont wanna alter pitch.

then i draw the blocks in on the sequencer and change velocities/ how long each note is played etc. I've got an akai mpd trigger thing but i only really use it to get a feel of what im doing most of the time i'm drawing in with the mouse. I quantize my shit and add swing and then take snap off and move each note till i got it exactly where i want it.
nice one

This is the first beat I've ever posted on this site. So, naturally I feel like an idiot reviewing other people's work.

Spanish Harlem: The beat is extremely relaxing I ended up playing it continously for quite a bit. The only thing I noticed was that your snare and choice of hi-hat sort of blended together.

Boneidle: You flipped the hell out of that. I actually liked the beat. I purchase a lot of instrumental cd's for my personal enjoyment and I that would fit in nicely in my collection. That bass kills the whole thing though, I would've gone with something sterner.

DrOscillator: I didn't catch the Gravediggers, but definitely had a "freaks come out at night" vibe going through my bones.
