When recording vocals, what piece of equipment is going to have the largest effect on quality? Microphone, soundcard, recording program, computer? Basically I'd like to know what I need to upgrade first. Thanks for the replies.

your most important pieces are in this order.....
pre amp... mic.... interface.... and cables.... your mic cable...
your pre amp has 2 there... if you got a bad pre amp... or use a mackie... or roland... mixer.. with phantom power....
there is a difference... between those and my AVALON...
MACKIE WILL BE THINNER LESS BODY...
2NDYOUR MIC... I USE A NEUMAN... BUT I HAVE CLIENTS... WHO WILL BRING THERE OWN MIC... USAULLY $500 OR MORE... BLUE... AND WILL SOMETIME GO WITH THAT... IT DEPENDS ON YOUR VOICE... SOME MIC GOT BOOST IN CERTAIN FREQUECIES...
3RD YOUR INTERFACE... IF YOU HAVE EVERYTHING TOP QUALITY...
BUT HAVE A BAD INTERFACE(SOUNDCARD) THEN YOU MIGHT AS WELL SELL THE
MIC AND THE PRE AND BUY SOME KEYZ...
CUZ WITH OUT A GOOD INTERFACE... EVERYTHING WILL LACK BODY....
I'VE RECORDED ON 001... THRU MOTUS... ROLAND VS1680'S..(THO THE ROLAND WASN'T THAT BAD... AND ALL THESE DO TAKE AWAY FROM YOUR BEAT....
VERY LITTLE THO... GET THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD...
YOU MIGHT BE HURTING BUT IN THE END IT ALL PAYS OFF
