I came across this and thought I would share it. Here is a link to the intro of Jelani Cobb's new book "To the Break of Dawn: A Freestyle of a Hip Hop Aesthetic". It's a great read about the history, politics, transformation and aesthetics of Hip Hop. It's not one of those beat you over the head sermons about 'learning your Hip Hop roots'. It's more of an ode to Hip Hop from a true fan. Check it out and let me know what you think.
