An Innovative New Sampler

Here's an easy approach to on-the-fly sampling. The flexible Octatrack treats loops with 100% in-sync elasticity. You can pitch shift them and change the tempo of the device, but everything will remain strictly in place. What's more, you can mold single sounds into practically any shape imaginable with the Octatrack. Assign any parameter you want to the optical cross fader for precision control. There's even a flash card and USB port for massive storage or fast file transfers. Do all this and much, much more with the Octatrack from Elektron.

The Ultimate Analog Drum Machine

If you’re going to design an analog drum synth, who better to turn to than the inventor of several of the most influential drum machines ever made, Roger Linn? That’s exactly who Dave Smith connected with when he set out to design the Tempest. To call the The Dave Smith Instruments Tempest a “drum machine” is nothing short of a colossal understatement. Rather, the Tempest is an all-in-one beat creation machine, capable of synthesizing, sequencing, and performing complete beat-based music. Don’t let its old-school look fool you. There’s absolutely nothing outdated about this fantastic instrument.

eh dac, this has been out for quite some time now hehe

besides, these 2 are full fledged sampler/workstations where the octatrack adds the potential of glitch engine (kinda nord g2 + dedicated buttons).

The tempest is getting a mixed response, ive been following a few users on a dutch forum. Its pretty underestimated, 2 of the users had it for trial, send it back and realised it was actualy quite good afterwards and still bought it :)
I personaly really liked the sound of the drums and synth, though im not a fan of SC synths except for a few patches, but the ones i heard coming out of tempest did seem to bring just that SC goodness. The 2 sliders + controllers make it an intuitive sequencer and using the pads to trigger loops really looks like fun to me.

Yeah the Tempest was first unveiled at the 2010 NAMM but it just became available according to the Feb 2012 issue of Music Tech Mag (page 76). I just like that there's options out there other than Controllers.

The Tempest has a very nostalgic look but I like the more modern look of the Octatrack plus having the capability to mold single sounds into practically any shape imaginable gets my vote all day!

yeah the tempest just now but i meant the octatrack :) Personal thing probably but Elektron hasnt cought me yet, its the sound or the filters. In that regards the spectralis sounded better, more character. The tempest, well, what would you expect... roger linn & dave smith, i'd expect a few more cool updates to make this machine a classic :) Im going to wait it off till the price drops. Meanwhile the guys at the dutch forum right now are doing comparison to achieving jomox like basskicks and noted its got a lot under the hood that they dismissed at first. Most vids you see right now make the tempest seem/sound a bit toyish, but ive seen richard divine's vid which proved the machine has balls and dirth. I'd love to hear this thing on an api2500, adr or ssl bus comp.
