How do u compress sounds like kicks and snares on FL 5...? I heard that it makes ya kicks sound better overall... depending on how u like ur drum patterns..

probably wanna stay away from the FL compressor. theres lots of free compressors out there that are easier to use and sound way better!
however as to learning what a compressor actually does and how to use it, thats all experience no matter howmuch you watch someone else do it.

my best suggection would be to throw your kick/snare/and hats on to their own fx channels so you have control over their individual fx other than compression. then set those fx channels up to go to " send 1" then add your compressor to one of the send 1 channel.
then you can decide if you want your compressor completly wet or a medium between wet and dry!
cool?

if you cant figur out the fl compressor why would you think another compressor would help you, personaly I think its a good compression and very easy to handle...

I would leave the send channels for fx, try grouping your instruments via the send option on the channel strips.

I suppose everyone has their own way with Flstudio right.
personally i just though that suggestion up cuz i would never aimlessly through compression on something that would not need it. but then again i mostly just use vst's.

basicly what a compressor does is takes all the frequencies of the sample your using and squashes it into the controlable paramater that the human ear can now hear or what ever you set it to but thats what the objective is suppose to be.

the reason I dont like the fl compressor is because im use to be able to see how much you are compressing something with actual meters rather buy " oh ok, that sounds good" because a compressor is ify. the sound may be good on monitors but crap on regular speakers.

By the way this is just my opinion as many other people feel diferently

anyways i just did some searching for like 2 minutes and found this...

Ive never tried these vst's and they dont have mmeters but like i said its just an example. just look up "free vst plugins"
