Im new to the whole software thing, so bear with me...
I have a couple of wave editor progams (CE and SoundForge) and Ive read about soft smplers as well.My question is, are they the same thing? What are the differences? I am rocking a hardware setup (Ensinoq EPS and some rack effects and EQ etc.) but I am dabbling with the software, eventually wanting to add a comp to my setup. peace CrestOne STA

Well Cool Edit and Sound Forge are the basically the same thing - software editors.

If you're looking for a software sampler (where you can load samples and play them with your keyboard), then you should look at either Vsampler, Gigasampler, Reason, etc.

The difference between editors and samplers is just that - with editors you can just edit your sounds, and with the sampler software, you can load samples and play them.

Also, Reason has everything included, so you might want to look into that. I haven't used it yet, but I know others on here have so you can ask some of them. Here's the site for Reason:
