I'm a sucker for something bass heavy. Not sure how I felt about the synth at 33 seconds. It's not that it's really bad persay, I'm just not sure that it's the best sound that could be used.

Here's a snippet of a beat that I'm working on. 4 bars are verse, 4 bars are a bridge, and 8 bars are a hook.

kdvs - very cool, nice production, nice vocals. Some of the fx sound a little loud to me but that's probably a matter of taste. nice track!

erik - heaps of potential there, very catchy.

here's something i've been working on, based on a sample from otis redding's champagne & wine. i'm going for a '90's feel as that was the golden age of hiphop, imo. i'm a bit stuck, it's getting there but maybe needs something else...

@Chubbs66... I love it. Maybe I'm biased, because I'm a huge Otis Redding fan. The rim shot mixes in nicely. Has a feel good vibe. A summer kind of song. Bongos are a nice touch too. Give it another dimension.

This is a development on the beat that I posted last week. Threw a Kanye West verse on it and mixed things around a little to my liking. First time putting a voice on a track and I'm pleased. Often times I feel like the vocal is the final missing instrument.

sounds good on the sonic level. you get mad respect from me on the level of appreciation you have for hip hop. its not like that in my hood. I like the progressiveness of your sound. I envy the crispness of your sound also. Its hard to criticize your work because its on a different level compared to mine.

erik - i totally agree re the vocal thing. often when i work on my hiphop beats when i get the first few elements together i'll get a vocal that fits with it and work the structure around that. loved that beat with the kanye vocal, timeless hiphop sound! here's a track i showcased a couple weeks back with the original vocal i worked around:

messengah - first one's got all the right elements there, i like the main samlpe you used. some of the sounds could be a bit crisper, maybe try layering up some of the drum/percussion sounds?

the second one has heaps of potential, loving the intro, great use of samples but again, the drums could do with some polish - crisper hats and possibly layer in a rim shot with the snare sound for a bit more pop arounk 1khz (ok, i just love the rimshot snare sound, could be just me).

bravoraps - bravo, very cool. nice production and fu*king hilarious vid!

i've just put an updated version of champagne & wine up, have mellowed out the snare sound a bit (still not quite satisfied) and overlaid a more 'real' sounding bass with the sub to ad some higher harmonics - i think it fits the over all vibe better than the pure synth bass.

Not a bad track. The only issue I have with this beat is the mix of the kick is WAY too loud compared to the rimshot/snare. As an engineer, I suggest lowering the volume of the kick to match the volume level of the snare, and since you'll lose beefiness in the kick, double it up with another kick. The other option is to beef up the rimshot/snare by doubling it up, so it matches the punch of that kick.
