i don't know, somehow i don't seem convinced that she really understands or sympathises with the culture. she makes an interesting note of her class, racial and educational background and focuses her article on lyrics delivered by cliche type hip hop without making any reference to other forms of conscious or creative hip hop. this suggests she is somewhat ignorant and her research and understanding is limited. i also find her final statement a little patronising and incredibly shallow, ..."And if this is the only way for these kids to break out of the ghetto while staying on the right side of the law, who am I to pass judgment".
