ok question, any tricks u guys use for sampling vocals from soul/jazz/hiphop ?

IE kanye, how he speeds up that shit, how can u get vocals isolated from the background hihats/keys/whatever...

even funky guitar riffs or whatever... u guys just search for stuff thats already really dry and on its own ? or u guys fuck with filters and stuff ?

the samples kanye uses are strait out of the songs a lot of the time, a lot of his stuff there is a lot of other sounds in the sample but you just have to learn to use them or alter the mix so you don't hear them as much !

I usually only sample really clean stuff (i.e. just the drums, or just a bass, or just a 300 ms clarinet blast), lets me focus more on using it right away. With experience one can sometimes mix things out of busy sections, it takes knowledge of filters, sometimes a bandpass will filter out stuff off the bat, if theres only one type of sound you want in that freq. range, and parametric eqs also work wonders. most standard vocal removal do a 180 degree phase shift on one channel of a stereo sample, leaving only the mono things, i believe. this can also isolate certain sounds. its a matter of trying and expirimentation.

Kanye has some nice filters too though to filter alot of stuff, but he uses his keyboard alot to almost make it sound like it's a sample, he does that alot with Violin. Just when you put your drums in, if your focused on taking out the original sounds just put yours on creatively, so yours are more dominant.

Me on the other hand, I like the background music.. Sometimes that's what make the song.. Even the littlest sound can Make or ruin a song.. All the samples that I've came across happen to help the song. I just leave it the way it is.. You'll be suprised on the outcome if you just work around the background music. Never tried to filter anything.. Don't think I would like the outcome. But you never know.. Plus if you listen really close alot of people keep it in. I just time stretch and eq the shit.. I don't mess with the clean stuff.
