i'm using cool edit pro 2, to record my vocals and i got two q's on this...

first off, in the multi track i'll have a beat in track1 and record vocals in track 2. when i record the vocal, it records the beat, real quietly in the background but loudly enough to distort shit and make it sound like there's two beats. how can i get just the vocal to record, without any instrumental for one track?

and i'm tryin to make my shit so that i can hear the beat through the monitors, and the emcee can hear through headphones, but while recording the vocal i don't want it to come out of my monitors. my old friend had his setup like this but i'm fucken confused about it.

helpful feedback appreciated.

I have my setup pretty much like this. Some of it's going to take some rigging but it works out pretty good. First....To have your vocals just recording u have to adjust your soundcard settings. Double click your volume icon and go to Options > Properties > Recording (might be different, depending on your soundcard) and mute everything but your microphone. That should set it where it only records from your mic.

In the back of my soundcard I have this adapter that turns the one jack in2 2. Just put ur headphones in one and your monitor in the other ;)

That should do the trick. But there are probably a million ways 2 do that same thing.....Just my simple way
