Recording From Mpc To Soundforge!!!!

HI, I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM......I HAVE MY MPC2000XL HOOKED UP TO MY COMPUTER....I ALSO HAVE SOUNDFORGE 7.0....WHEN I PLAY A SONG ON THE MPC, SOUND COMES THRU MY COMPUTER SPEAKERS BUT THE BARS DON'T MOVE WHEN I TRY TO RECORD IN SOUNDFORGE....ITS LIKE THE PROGRAM DOESN'T "HEAR" THE MUSIC....DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN MAKE THE PROGRAM "HEAR" THE MUSIC AND MAKE THE LEVEL BARS MOVE SO I CAN RECORD.....IF NOT IT IS POINTLESS FOR ME TO MAKE MUSIC IF I CAN'T GET IT TO THE COMP TO BURN IT TO CD!!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all what kind of sound card do you have....some sound cards have their own mixer and console, if you have a card like one of the M-audio Delta cards it allows you to monitor the signal, you have to select inputs and outputs and also within soundforge make sure you have the inputs that you want to use selected in there......

I DON'T KNOW WHAT SOUNDCARD I HAVE....HOW CAN I FIND THIS OUT....I HAVE EXACTLY WHATEVER THE COMP CAME WITH....I HAVE A DELL.......DO I EVEN HAVE A SOUNDCARD....OR DO I HAVE TO BUY ONE?

Man do I look like the dude from Dell???? just kidding naw look you have to go to control panel and look at your multimedia settings....what model dell is it...I am pretty sure that it would have a sound card...go to options> preferences> wave in Soundforge...I have 6 so I don't know if thats even right for that version, anyhow it will show you what card soundforge is using....you need to make sure that it is using the system card that is in multimedia configuration for your sound on the computer...also make sure the settingf for recording and playback in control panel are setup to use your sound card....i
then I would dbl check to see if any of the channels are muted..but this probably wouldn't be the case if you can hear it out the monitors but not in soundforge...
