well the chops that I record in the piano roll quantize fine (like when you quantize-record I guess that's what it's called). But the manual quantize doesn't work when I highlight hits in the piano roll and hit alt+Q. It doesn't make a difference cuz the notes have the same start point when I set the recording-quantize on, but i'm a perfectionist with OCD so I have to have all the notes in the piano roll same length or else it bothers me lol

ok...but I don't think using quantize changes the note length anyway. That only moves the notes that you made forward or backwards depending on how you want them quantized.

You also have to keep in mind that note length and velocity is what keeps your instruments from sounding stiff and robotic. That's that human feel that people talk about. There's no way a say piano player is going to hold the notes the same each and every time, nor the velocity.

I'm not really worried about the "humanizing" thing, I only humanize my shit with drums since I dont record myself doing other instruments and pretty much only sample. I use my keys to record the sample chops which have to be quantized because I chop in "1 beat" lengths and can't have anything off timing with that (with certain exceptions). Half the time when I record my chops in, they are sloppy and off timing even with the auto-quantize on, and when I go back to manual quantize them the quantize doesn't work. Quantize does change note length, like let's say I hold a key longer for one chop than the other, i'll go back, quantize and all the note lengths will be the same (maybe quantize only corrects note length in FL? idk), but all the sudden it stopped working.

I may be wrong....

Do they have a feature on FL where you can play with the percentage of quantization? I know Ableton and few other programs do. Since you want certain things exact you'll need to stay at 100%, if you quantize and still want to keep a slight human feel go with 65% or less.

well bout the quantize not working properly, you have to select what you're alligning with..
up near the top in that toolbar thats got the radio buttons for enabling keyboard to MIDI, step editing, record on input, metronome on/off, etc... theres a lil drop down menu labeled "snap"
what you need to do is select what resolution you're quantizing at, (e.g line, cell, 1/2 step, 1/6 step) once selected from there, your quantize should work normally.
hope that helps, peace

Yes LDB, there is a sensitivity setting and daproduct, what your talking about is what ive been calling "auto-quantize", but the manual quantize is not functional at all, and parameters I mess with in it doesnt do anything, I looked into the rest of the tools on the piano roll like arpeggiate and shit, that's not working at all either. I think I just made a bad install or something, gonna try to reinstall see if that works. Thanks for the help.

when one manually quantize something, isn't that just manually moving notes back and fourth? you might have to youtube that shit.

lol ya I didnt explain it that well. When I auto quantize i'm talking about quantizing my input on the midi controller, when I say manual quantize I mean going back to the piano roll, selecting all the notes and hitting alt+Q. The manual quantize is not working at all, neither is arpeggiate/etc. Idk if youtube would have a vid to fix that, it's more of a troubleshooting thing than a tutorial, ima just reinstall this bitch, appreciate the suggestion though.

oooooooohhhh so the shit just aint working period...yeah reinstall it. But I remember when I was using FL and everything worked perfectly on XP, but when I switched to VISTA, funny things started to happen like cursor moving by itself...then one day CRASH! Are you using XP or Vista?

I bet thats part of the problem if not all of it.

That's the ENTIRE problem. Vista just ain't cut out for music production. XP is what u need...real talk. You'll straighten out one thing running on vista and then here comes ten more problems.
