Had a beat battle over the weekend. Looks as if your pal Sucio was doomed from the start....
#1. We were watching the organizer put us in brackets. He was just pairing us up as our names came up on the list. When I was up..he skipped my name, paired up some other dudes. Then put me up against some guy. Now I thought that was fishy from the start..
#2. Now when I was up against this dude, the host (who is also a judge) called out the dude like "next up is a veteran of the beat battle game, my man (then says his name). Round one - had to play 3 quick :30 clips of beats (track lasted 1:30). The dude had some people moving but not even close to how I had it.
Now I'm thinking I had this in the bag, but nope! The dudes voted for the other guy....I mean the dude's mix was horrible & the beats were boring.
It's crazy because the battle before mine, one guy got jerked because he was up against a local DJ who does a lot of the local shows out here......and I thought the DJ had OK beats at best.. (i'm comparing them mostly to my own and beats I hear on this site). The other kid had better tracks hands down...even more so than my battle....of course he lost too....
Now if the guy straight up had harder tracks, then I'll graciously accept defeat....but that was definitely not the case.
But that's how Orlando is. If you're not down with the locals and rep Orlando hard, no one would show you love......
It was a bad experience all around....the battle was supposed to start @ 3pm.....It didn't start until 8pm.....I was out there for 5 hours jerking around. The battle was outside, to boot. For the first 3 hours it was fucking hot as hell...(wearing a black polo and jeans in 80+ degrees). If there wasn't any prize money involved, I would've bounced real quick.
Fortunately for me, I took some of the time to network with some emcees....who I thought was actually good.
