Just copped a ART MPA GOLD dual preamp w/ (2) replacement 12ax7s to swap for the chinese stock tubes.

Nothin to brag about really considering the obvious, but its still better than not having anything to run my signals through before they hit my DAW. Plus ive read nothing but good reviews about once you switch out the tubes so Ill keep you guys updated on the results...

What really sold me was the variable impedance feature. At that price point that feature is unbeatable!

Its fairly inexpensive for what it is: thats why i purchased it.
Still ballin on a budget so I make due.
The tubes ran me about 45 bucks.
So all together about 350.00.

Cant wait to fuck with the variable impedance tho. Love that feature.
As far as the color: I actually hate that look, but its the only color it comes in. LOL.
Whatever, its not like im takin out to show people.

studio purchased a set of siemens 676 and 672's, bound to be racked, also lookin into some siemens or tab compressor/limiters for bargain prices...some of these racked and sold for 1500+++ dollars

The main reason you should want to buy a dedicated channel strip or preamp for your mic/etc is to obtain a level of quality sonically that simply isn't attainable via the stock pres that come with your interface or mixer.
In many cases those preamps will work just fine for many applications...But after recording with just the bare minimum like that for so long - youl eventually begin to feel like your sounds could clearly be a lot better.
Thats the case with my setup right now. I mean, the MPA is nothing special, but it will also impart a much warmer rounded signal into my DAW that would simply be un-attainable via just the pres on my MOTU.

Tracking indicates its due here Friday, so ill try and let u guys kno wutsup next week some time. The tubes are on back order unfortunately but this will let me A/B the stocks with the GTs anyways....

Well it came this morning...
Pretty cool actually. I was expecting shittier quality. Plus the gold color is more of a tint in real person rather then the way the pictures make it look. Its more of a goldish platinum.

Did a test run with my MD1B FET....Sounded pretty cool. You def have to mess with the setting on the impedance according the tone of the vocalist and what mic your using....

I found it sounds best with the tubes driven hard and a medium light impedance around 450 ohms. The stock tubes actually dont sound too bad, however they do seem to have a lot of saturation at the higher end of the frequency spectrum when driven full steam which can be a little harsh. I figure with different tubes that will prob get smoothed over a bit more.

One thing I overlooked when buying the MPA was that I was under the influence that you could still use the variable impedance with instrument inputs when doing stuff as a DI. Not the case unfortunately. Only works with the MIC inputs. Pretty sure that can easily be solved though buy running a TS to XLR cable from a line level source.
Just figured Id mention in case anybodies bothering reading this exhilarating post!?...lol
