I use protools le to record and mix everything.

Now to have a nice mix, there are some rules, every instrument has got a specific volume in the mix.

But using protools le I'm a bit confused, ok this maybe a newbie question but anyway. For examples when I want the snare to be at -2 db, so I'm putting the fader on -2 db, but what comes out, I don't think that is -2, it depends on the original volume I recorded the snare with?
Am I wrong?

stuff you bloody uv meters man dont worry about that crap there guids.
and yes the level you record with will effect how loud it is.
use your ears not the bouncy lights put the snares volume at 1005 all the way and then bring it down till it sounds at the right level mix with your ears not your eyes. the only time you need to look at levels is when record your instruments you dont want it to clip (hit the reds) when mixing down of course you will get distortion if something is clipping but that shouldnt be a problem if its recorded properly. but over all use your ears not your eyes looking at the flashing lights.

Yeah I'm using my ears for a nice mix but I want to work with certain values for different instruments, just to know that I'm doing it like I should.
