They are using the right gear, Im not
Them feels.

But don't worry m8, learn from the vid, a few £20 plugins in your untreated flat and you can match the quality of the dude whose ears are attunedfor 20 years in his studio with several hundred thousand dollars worth of gear.

But on a real... it's more trying to get people to realise how subtle the approaches can be, and understanding why/how things are done, even the part about Kendrick turning up to all of his mastering sessions as even as the artist he knows how he wants his final product sounding.

But also so as producers, you probably got people here doing crazy eq shapes and all weird shit on their masters, overdoing it etc. Just gives real insights in how to look at things.

Mastering is a completely different realm.

I watched mastering Pharrell's Happy and also this one, and was surprised how seemingly little these engineers do. Obviously there's lots more to it. But essentially theyre hardly doing much at all.

I knew pro engineers with commercial studios and often one told me he would just slap an L2 or Multimaximiser and just dip a little at around 240hz and send it back.

Obviouslythese are receiving records that have been more often than not really well/expertly mixed as opposed to dodgy mixes. But it shows you a lot re less is more compared to probably how many novices and amateurs approach it.

I remember an interview from ages ago where someone mentioned how boring mastering is LOL. I get the feeling it's like they want to do something to the mix but it's already mixed so they just tweak a bit and send it.

I was actually thinking this...

Like, as much as you'd probably jump at the chance to be a mastering engineer with a studio like that, and it would probably gas people up.

Just hitting a few dbs boost and a minor eq tweek. Sounds almost as tedious as being a trap producer

I think it's a great job if you're an introvert. Nobody will bother you.
