Yo!!!

I'm new to hip-hop production and am just doing it for fun. I'm learning to use FLStudio and Cool Edit and I hope to make dope beats using samples like Dj Premier, Havoc, Alchemist etc.

I have come up with some ok loops but my challenge it adding extra sounds to the loops and creating variations/change ups like the pros do. I know I can do much better but I feel stuck and limited with getting the most from my samples.

Do any beatmakers out there have any tips or advice on how I can improve my skills in sampling and make some dope beats with my samples???

get good at chopping up your samples in cool edit. a sample can be flipped in so many different ways.

use new samples just before a change up takes place

if you already have a solid loop and just want to add stuff to it, try selecting subtle sounds that kinda stay in the backround so it doesnt ruin the loop but still adds flavour.

load up a sample and click on its button... a pop up should appear... theres a box at the bottom left of this pop up window that allows you to stretch the sample as long as you like... howvever you do have to make the sample loop as precisely as possible when using cool edit or goldwave...

I dont know much bout tha software stuff but from what heard tha two cat b4 me say sound legit. I use a MPC3000 and a roland xp-30 keyboard and samplin' I love it. One of tha key things I think is how you chop' em up, flipit. then from there you can go to your sound cards modules whathaveyous. But yeah man good luck!

sampling

you also play with the pitch of your samples when using acid, that helps get you a change-up in your sound
