Man, I'm soooo friggin' late in the game. Anyway, I've finally got my finances together to cop either the 24" Imac or the MPC2500 (or versions under that obviously). Of course, I'll eventually have both in my arsenal but which one should I spend the cash on first?

I really need the Imac to load up all my software, but need to start bangin out on pads before I go crazy (I can't stand lookin' at YouTube rookies getting all the shine on their MP's, man). So......

Which should I cop first? My Imac or an MPC? Deadline: April 26 (my B-Day!!!!)

Yeah its a double edged sword, since I have the 2500 then Im all about that but once you get some good stuff down in the mpc, then what? will you just be frustrated?Likewise if you get the Imac then your gonna wanna put some beats in it...
I say get the 2500, at least youll have somthing to listen to while you wait..lol

Get that "MP" my dude. First and foremost it's about the beats. You can always go to a studio and record until you cop a computer. I know it's going to be frustrating at first, but it will all be worth it in the end. I know cats that have the whole nine yards and their music sounds like crap. That's because they had the money to buy it all at once. They never took the time to learn how to make beats first. Get the "MP", get you beats up and then worry about recording...

or you could get both. Grab a used Dual g4 1.25 and get a used MPC2000xl. you should be able to get both on ebay for $1200

That's true, if you're on a real tight budget, you should do so. But if you're patient, then i wouldn't settle. I learned that the hard way and bought things and then had to turn around and upgrade when i should have saved my money a little bit longer and got what i was focused on getting in the first place. If anything, i would get the "power mac" if i were you. The "imac" is good starting out, but you'll eventually have to upgrade once you get into really heavy mixing. But if you're doing light mixing, get the "imac". But before you get any computer, get the "MP"...Just my opinion...

Yeah, it's all on what you're going to be comfortable on using. All we can tell you is how we'd go about things. As far as the "PC vs MAC", we can sit here all day and argue. I've had my share of problems with the PC's i've owned. That's why i use a MAC and never turned back since. It's all on the person though. It's a matter of opinion...

dude get the imac- u can get an mpc for cheap later on, but a good 24 inch imac is like close to a 2,000 professional computer...that thing is extremely powerful.

great advice..thing is I already got a computer, I'm just in the middle of building my setup from the ground up which'll include a good comp. in the beginning. so I'm cool now with beat storage. I've decided on the 1000 first. This way I'll be able to cop me a turntable and maybe a dozen records to get me started! I already have a set of Roland monitors.

would it be wise to sample vinyl straight into the mp or should i get a mixer for routing?

Use a mixer, make sure it has "balanced outs" and you should be good...

i would get the mpc.... more music .. less porn .. computers lose value quickly .. in a few months the prices will go down for the mac .. the mp retains value so worse comes to worse if u end up not liking it then u could sell it and then buy a computer with the money!

so true I'm grinning cuz I even asked it,

i just don't want a bum mixer that'll give me a crappy signal feed, but I guess it doesn't matter

thanks, rel

If you have a local "Guitarcenter" around your way, you can get you a decent one for cheap off of the clearance table. I always see things like that at the "Guitarcenter" in "VA Beach". Usually the only problem with them is they were the display model and they're trying to get rid of them or people have returned them. But that's about it...
