I just thought of this while I was creating two new programs on my MPC 1000 for the TR-808 samples. Instead of creating a bunch of programs with samples, it would be better to have a folder that contains just the sample files. Then I could load that folder at once, use the trim screen to audition the samples, then create a custom program containing just the samples I want to use for a song, and finally purge all the other samples that aren't assigned to the program. Anybody else do this?

Just as a quick follow-up to my original post. I started doing it this way and it works great! Although, I discovered I can also use the Program screen to audition the samples. I just can't see the waveforms from this screen. I also started using CDXtract to convert my ESI-4000 sampled hits to WAV so I can load them into the MPC. I find it much nicer to use the MPC's pads for programming drum patterns than my keyboard.

Peace Out \/
