Line in / Microphone in too loud when recording vinyl

Would getting a mixer help reduce loudness?

I have a Lenovo T60p. I have a Pioneer Vinyl player that goes to an pre-amp that then connects to my laptop and it's too loud. I tried reducing volume on my laptop recording but it's a no go... any ideas if getting a small mixer would help?

I'd suggest getting something better but that should work since it's an interface and thats really what you need to go from turntable to laptop.

Is there any gain/volume/trim control on the pre-amp? If so, whacking it right down could be a good idea.

cosign. u wanna reduce the volume of the signal before its recorded if its too loud, not after. n ima guess it has a gain controller somewhere if its a preamp ...
