Hoppa too, Ash too, shit, I think the majority of people on here has sold a beat for money and/or record tracks. Also, define "success" in the industry. Most of the times the artists ain't the ones making the money, it's usually the labels. Also now that everything is downloaded, 36000 units will put you at #5 on the billboard charts, so times have changed, if you sell 1000 copies of your album, it's impressive (whereas ten years ago it wouldn't have been shit).
I've worked with a lot of good people, placed beats on LPs/ produced music for fashion shows and spent the last year archiving and remixing some golden age hip hop.
I think if you, your friends and your family got happiness and health that's the real target, so much of this "rock star" type mentality is a house of mirrors, total BS...
